He's saying markup compared to the retail price of normal shoes and sandals. Not markup compared to cost.

It's possible but I kinda doubt it

Guys like smith are the exception and not the rule and I could definitely imagine the balls relentlessly getting this 'you owe me, you wouldn't be here if it weren't for me' browbeating bull**** from larva

Some of larva's demands have just been other worldly propostrous even moreso than the shoes. He wants to be on the team plane of whatever team drafts lonzo AND he wants his film crew for some reality show he wants to film to be on it too? He could be a part of a murder-suicide where he kills little fat bell then himself and he'd be a better father to lonzo than he is today

Seems like his dad owned us all; ESPN is covering this **** and we're talking about it. Seems like it's just what he wanted; free press and us wasting our time talking about his dad being such a dumb ass.

Ya except in this case that's a loss not a win. Companies don't want to endorse him, teams don't want to draft him and if he's Brandon jennings teams will decide he's not worth the baggage

if Lonzo gets drafted by a stable organization, I think he'd distance himself from daddy within a couple of years

with that said, Knicks luckboxing a top 3 pick and getting him would break all TV ratings

ESPN should seriously hire Papa Ball

based on that one appearance, think he'd instantly be a top-5 talking head there

what if getting the Celtics & Suns to pass on Lonzo so that he ends up a Laker is exactly what they want?

Scenario:

Knicks land top 3 pick and select Lonzo Ball.

Do the fans:

A) Cheer loudly
B) Cheer somewhat
C) Boo

fwiw, answer to the McL-Q is cheer because if he lives up to potential (non-parental-hype) Ball is a distributing PG and that's the #1 priority for the Knacks. But with a healthy side-order of trepidation, because it's already clear that KP won't tolerate shats from, e.g., Lavar Ball and there's a decent risk of that.

I guess even the Knicks draft bpa if they bink the lottery, but it wouldn't amaze me if they traded back to French Frank or Fox if they could guarantee that somehow.

I've watched a little of rivers of Strasburg recently & I still think Ntikilina is going to be one of the steals of the draft.

lost in the cost of the shoe is the shipping date of the shoe:

It was explained on his show later it takes that long to make and ship all the shoes. So if he only sells whats ordered he makes money because he'll only have to make whats ordered and not have a bunch of wasted overstock.

Yeah I also think that they cheer. I say he becomes a Laker though.

What's funny to me is that the cost of the shoe is $500 and I think I know why. I've looked into making hats earlier this year, and without being willing to put up a significant amount of money or travel to China I was looking at a cost of $36 per hat, and that's just to get it made never mind having it sold. It wouldn't surprise me to see Ball doing this the hard way and having his manufacturing costs well exceed what people think. If somebody found out they cost around $75 each to make I wouldn't be surprised at all.

The reason it is $500 is the sad reality that basketball shoes are primarily fashion accessories, and for many people high cost is a selling point for fashion accessories.

I hate to say it but I think the public's reaction to this shows that it is actually a smart gamble, even with all the hate. They're getting tons of publicity and everyone is talking about the cost, whether Lonzo is good enough to sell it, and how it looks. Nobody seems to care that it is probably not a good basketball shoe. If Lonzo flops the shoe will flop, but if he is a star they could make serious money.

Eddy, you need a business partner. I am willing to type 'custom hats' into google, slash your cost of goods sold by 50% and take half the profit. Let me know

Trust me it's not as easy as you think. On a 10k order $36 was a bargain for the type of hat I wanted. Hats are expensive to produce in the US.
