But that's a good point. Ballacks one right at the end was crazy.
The drog is never wrong.

At least there was some comedy gif / reaction as a result. Poor Ballack, so desperate to win the Champions League. Blatant pen a minute after they equalised. Hands up in the box denying shot on goal? No big deal. **** sake at pure incompetence. The Euro Phil Dowd would have been sufficient.

Been mentioned, but 2002 WC against Germany would have had USA against South Korea for a spot in the semis.

On the ladies' side, this:

Not sure I've ever been in a bar that went from as fun to completely silent after Sawa's goal in the 117th minute.

Marlins don't win their first wild card series, team descends into suckage, without that World Series title their fans and city turn on them even more so the owner eventually sells so they move and don't get their second title either.

I'm not a big MLB fan anymore but I'm not sure anything in sports rustles me more than the Marlins having two titles.

As a Seattle guy, a couple big disappointments come to mind (no not that one).

Sonics 93-94 season. Quote from Wikipedia:

Quote:
The next year, 1993–94, the SuperSonics had the best record in the NBA at 63–19, but suffered a first round loss to the Denver Nuggets, becoming the first #1 seed to lose a playoff series to an 8th seed.
One memorable thing about that series was having game coverage interrupted by this media circus:

Spoiler:

Second disappointment was the 2001 Mariners. Again, best record in baseball (116-46), then lose to the GD Yankees in the playoffs.

There was another big event that made this year memorable that I probably don't have to remind you about...

OJ Simpson coverage didn't interrupt the first round of the 94 playoffs.

It interrupted the Finals.

True story, was at both Game 6 of the 98 ECF where the Pacers won and Game 6 of the 2011 World Series, the Freese game. I guess also at 2005 Illinois UNC. All mentioned ITT.

You are correct sir.

I thought about looking that up to confirm but figured it wasn't important. That will teach me to rely on 20 year old memories while underestimating the nittery one should expect online.

(And to pwnsall, I did mean 2001, but worded the post badly.)

The obvious answer for me would be Spurs/Heat game 6 because that was easily the worst loss I ever have or ever will experienced as a sports fan. But it was redeemed so beautifully the following year that I'm almost OK with it. So I've gotta go with Spurs/Lakers game 5 in 2004. The goddamn Derek Fisher shot. If that lucky horse**** doesn't happen, the Spurs might have a 3-peat from 2003-2005, they would've officially ended Karl Malone's career, and this would be Tim Duncan's #1 career highlight and would rightfully be remembered as one of the greatest ****ing shots in the history of basketball (32 sec into vid):

**** you Derek Fisher.

you might have gotten away with it had it not featured prominently in the 30 for 30 doc "June 17th, 1994"

lol I actually got mad reading your post and reliving that game 7. That one is pretty high on my list and I didn't even like that Blazers team. That's how much I hated the Shaq/Kobe Lakers. I remember watching that game and talking **** the entire time to my friend who was a Lakers fan. That has to be #1 on my list not including my favorite teams or gambling.

Oh man, that hits close. Watched the same game with a group of friends, one was a wet brain LakerFan. I liked the guy otherwise. But damn, watching him jump and cheer and mock us during that 4th quarter made me want to kill him. Another buddy of mine there and him would have come to blows if we didn't pull them apart. God do I hate the Lakers.

From 3000 miles and 17-18 years away, I feel like that World Series couldn't have done less for them. They were dog**** as was the attendance immediately afterwards.

Braves-Cardinals Infield Fly

Also, as an extra **** you to Matt Holiday, the infield fly ump also decides that he still hasn't touched home plate and the Padres retroactively get to play in the 2007 playoffs.

Definitely Raiders vs Patriots and the Tuck Rule. Raiders win that game and they potentially win multiple SB titles and there is no Patriots "dynasty" and Belichick and Brady never get the chance to become world class douches.

83 NFCCG

Redskins take 21-0 lead in the 3Q, Niners storm back to tie it with five minutes left. On subsequent drive Theisman hits Monk on 3rd and 10 for exactly 10 and get a 1st down at their 40. Then a couple of plays later throws one five yards out of bounds on a deep pass to Monk and inexplicably there's a flag thrown (which prompted the uncatchable rule the next season) for pass interference. Three plays later with two minutes left Lott gets called for holding when Monk literally runs into him and stops while the ball is thrown on the other side of the field, allowing the Skins to wind down the clock and kick the game winning field goal as time expired.

**** Art Monk and **** the refs for forcing me to punch multiple holes in the wall of the apartment my new wife and I had just moved in to made all the worse since the Redskins got crushed by the Raiders in the SB and the Niners matched up with them really well.
