Is this real life? Deja vu, big time, I am like 90% sure GB posted this EXAC thing with a couple of names changed like 3 years ago. OH YEAH PAC TEN GONNA BE SOOOOO SICK IN TWO YEARS BABY

As a WSU fan, I'm way ok with the Jones hire. If I was an ASU fan, I'd be really annoyed that we ended up with the 1980 version of two coaches ASU should have had an opportunity to hire.

I'd love data for all states, and for this analysis to really work I'd need to know what percentage of NFL players come from BCS conference teams (I assumed 85%, which I'm sure is way off), and I'd have to account for teams that have a footprint in the state (I assumed for the moment that every NFL player from the state went to college in-state, lol).

Given my lack of detailed data, and with those silly assumptions that allowed me to do it quickly, here's some basic normaliztion:

Now looking like 2 mill buyout for Jones as well as serious backlash from ASU fans and boosters is holding up the deal. Might be off.

What an absolute ****ing circus

wait, I thought ASU was gonna throw $4M/year at Sumlin, now they're balking at a $2,000,000 buyout?

$2mil buyout for June Jones doesn't seem great.

I think ASU should be looking for someone with a higher ceiling. Pure Casual Fan, gut feeling, but Sumlin seems like someone who can take a program further

More data showing why it's such a crime that Tulane is one of the worst teams in the country. Swiping just a couple of those guys every now and then would make such a difference in Conference AIDS.

Tenn DC Justin Wilcox being thrown around now for an ASU target. Seems to be a much better direction imo.

DONOTWANTINPAC12 (unless he wants to return home and succeed Alliotti at some point).

However I don't know how much potential he has as a Head Coach, he's one of those guys who is obviously a good young coordinator, but there's no evidence to say he can (or can't, to be fair) run a program. I don't know if I'm convinced that he's a "better direction" than June Jones. Maybe I'm just letting what Jones did at Hawaii overly impress me though... I'll have to look closer at his full resume to be sure.

Yeah, to be honest I don't know a ton about Wilcox myself. But what I mean is, ASU has said from the beginning they wanted to go younger, more enthusiastic, excite the fan base, etc etc and a soon to be 59 year old June Jones seemed to be the polar opposite of all those prerequisites.

Junes Jones? Hell, they should have kept Erickson if they're going after Jones. This would be like upgrading from a 2001 Ford Focus to a 2003 Ford Focus.. happy times!!

Is Butch Davis allowed to coach? ASU should go after him, they'd be a cool outlaw school

Jones took over a Hawaii program that had lost 18 games in a row, and proceeded to win 9+ games in four of his first five years, and 8 games in the sixth. After one off year, he then won 11 and 12 games in his last two years with the team, getting the Hawaii Freaking Warrior to a BCS game (not that they deserved it, but still... that's not really the point.)

If you look at wins and losses he hasn't been as impressive at SMU, but I suspect that is somewhat bad luck, based on the Adj. YPP rankings. SMU had been ranked #91, #72, and #88 in the three years before he showed up, and while his first year sucked (#102), he then improved to #50 in '09, #23 in '10, and #11 this year.

I guess I don't know if he's a good fit for a team with some solid history, trying to establish themselves, like ASU is. I don't think there's many better options for a truly bad team trying to get out of the cellar though. He's definitely a good coach with an established track record. Questionable ceiling, but low risk. I guess with where ASU is at, maybe that isn't what they want?

Auburn, Clemson, South Carolina, Tennessee, and FSU poaching at the edges .

No, they're in South Bend Indiana afaik. The reason I list three is that there's a typo on ESPN.com (le gasp!) in the stadium info for Purdue, which lists them as being in "West Lafayette, IL". LOL?

I assumed high school, or else why would we be breaking it down by state instead of just by team? But I just copied my data out of the photo FyteOn posted. A link to the source would confirm that what I posted has any hint of meaning at all (which it wouldn't, if the data was by college attended...)
