Well, the RANGZ in '92 were a friggin' miracle. That whole decade was aided by a weak-ass SECW where frankly today's Mississippi State team would expect to run the table every year. Championship games are coinflips from there. Consistency's easier when you bring in patsies at every opportunity--we actually dropped Southern Mississippi as a frequent opponent because the games were getting too competitive.
We weren't terrible and we did manage to stay on a level above the Mississippi schools. That's what life is like for us without the game's best coach.
Plus there were the 3 cheating scandals over that stretch and I would politely call them a drop in the bucket for what was going on. Now I'm not saying Ray Perkins, Bill Curry, Mike Dubose, Dennis Franchione, or Mike Shula were dirty coaches. I don't know that they weren't, but I don't know that they were. I'm saying they were at least feckless weaklings who never got control of the overfunded overpriveledged booster manchilds who thought of graft as helping the team. No I did not leave Stallings out by accident.
Say what you will about Nick Saban, and I'll mostly join you, but that guy has turned out the cleanest UofA program by a wide margin I have ever seen in my lifetime and probably dating back to the 50s. Oversigning by the letter if not the spirit of the rules? LOL, why don't I just go wait outside a NA meeting and scream at people for smoking cigarettes.
