I'm a UNC fan and college basketball is my favorite sport and for all the hate Packer gets, I think this is a horrible move. The guy knows the game of basketball and gives pretty good information throughout the game unlike guys like Kellogg and Vitale. He comes off as a prick at times, but I'd rather listen to someone who talks about the game than Dick Vitale who's rambling about Ashley Judd for 7 minutes in the middle of a close game.

uhh... I like Gus Johnson, too, but he's play-by-play, not commentary.

Basically what I'm getting at is get rid of Nantz too and have a Rafferty/Johnson Final Four line up. Point taken though.

Edit to say: I know there is 0% chance of Nantz being pulled from CBS's Final Four line-up.

it would be a travesty if Nantz was fired, imo.

I remember him at ESPN - WTF.

Packer was definitely not knowledgeable about the game (incoherent babbling about the final four games from the 50's a lot) and he really believed that he knew more about the rules of the game then the officials, which is what bothered me the most about him. How about the incident he got into with Phil Martelli the year St. Joe's was undefeated and he claimed they didnt deserve it? Lol, Glad he is gone and I used to love Dicky V but he needs to hang it up as well , looks like he has parkinsons now.

Agreed more Gus Johnson, and I'm a Raftery fan as well. Sean McDonough was one of the best but I'm not sure if he is still doing games or not. Nance is also very good imo.

Glad to hear he is done, never liked him. Have a vague memory of Al McGuire 30 years ago in an on-air mini-squabble telling Billy that the set shot and two-handed chess passes weren't coming back, so get over it.

How the hell can you hate Dick Vitale. COme on how can you hate all is silly nicknames likes Diaper dandies and PTP (prime time players) and making drinking games out of how many times he says BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So basically he's the NCAA basketball version of Ken Venturi, put out to pasture about ten years too late. Poor Nantz and his cliches has had to spend half his adult life alongside those two guys.

McDonough does Big East games on Monday & Wednesday nights w/ Rafftery & Bilas...he doesn't cross over to CBS for the tournament like those two though.

lol, this is so true. Nantz is so good that he acts in a way that makes it look like he reveres those 2 guys everytime he did a broadcast with them.

That is easily my favorite crew on any network for any sport.

Thank god. Now I can watch a final four game without hearing 30 Dean Smith references.
