So the Pats scored on 4 possessions in the row to end the game.
So terrible choking defense.

Yup because no team has ever scored in the last 50 seconds of the half this season. NFC North sends it's regards

So they had the ball 3 times after those 4 scores.

fumble / field goal screw up / 3 and out

... again, it was much more luck than choking.
Uhhhhh a fumble and a sack followed by offensive penalty to get pushed out of field goal range sounds like a choke to me

You don't lose a 25 point lead without a large amount of choke involved. Pats luckboxed certainly but Falcons obv choked on a big veiny brady dick

This has made me go back to a lot of the NFL championships. Cowboys choke in superbowl 5 is pretty epic. Driving deep into Baltimore territory. Throw a pick with a minute left in the game to have the Colts return the INT to the dallas 27.

The WR who the ball was intended for on that INT? Dan Reeves. Just saying.

A completely deflating loss for the Falcons.

Atlanta managing to blow a 25 point lead *while also* using up all their timeouts before their last posession was a nice touch.

Falcons coaches choked more than the players. And the players choked pretty hard.

Teams who get a pick-6 in the Superbowl are now only 12-1. Teams who have a 11+ point lead in the Superbowl are no longer undefeated. Teams that held a 19+ point lead at the half in the postseason are now 93-1.

Also, the pats never lead once in regulation and went on to win. First time ever that's happened.

Ouch.

Which is worse: Pete Carroll's decision to pass over the middle on 2nd and Goal, or Dan Quinn's decision to call for a seven step drop while up by 8 with about 3 minutes left and the ball on the New England 35?

To me they seem about equally bad, but the former will always be seen as worse by mainstream fans/sports media.

Dan Quinn calls the offensive plays?

It's well within his power to overrule Shanahan and just kneel it three times to burn some clock, give his defense a rest, and put his kicker in a position to ice the game.

Edit: Also note that the Falcons had the ball on the NE 22 rather than NE 35, so three kneels and they get a chance at a 42 yard field goal.

It's more on Shanahan than Quinn imo. Though it's mostly on Matt Ryan.

Pats deserved that catch after the one against the Giants in 07 or whenever it was. They are now even with luckbox catches, one for them, one for Eli.

This is not close. Its Pete Carroll thats worse. Just give the ball to Lynch 3 times (if needed) and the game is over.

The Seattle pass isn't nearly as bad as people make it seem. They didn't have enough time to run the ball 3 times and only had 1 timeout. They were forced to pass at least once. So the only question is whether they pass on 2nd down or 3rd down.

No, they're still down 2-1; it's just that Jermaine Kearse's ridiculous catch didn't lead to a Super Bowl win because of the LOL playcall of "Let's throw a quick slant to our fourth receiver on the 1-yard line."

Yea, the Seattle pass is not that bad. They HAD to score a touchdown. Despite what people think, scoring a goalline TD is pretty hard, and that's why you see teams trying all sorts of stuff in goalline situations.

Just look at the Patriots yesterday. Their two 2-pt conversions were a trick misdirection run and a pick-like pass. On first-and-1 in OT, they tried a pretty bad fade. The Seahawks had a pick play that they loved and it's reasonable to call it.

2004 Yankees up 3-0, and twice Rivera had a chance to close it.

Probably should target a good receiver who won't get outmuscled to the catch point then. Ricardo Lockette was a glorified special teamer.

Of course it's possible that the particular pass play that Seattle called was sub-optimal. But some people claim that any pass play was wrong. And that analysis ignores the clock.

Seattle snapped the ball with 26 seconds left on the clock. They had one timeout left. It was 2nd down.

If they ran on 2nd down and failed, they had to call their final timeout. Which guarantees a pass on 3rd down because they a stuffed 3rd down run meant no 4th down play.

Seattle could have run the 2nd down play earlier, but even then there was no guarantee they could run the ball 3 times with only 1 timeout.

So at 4th and 3 in their own half Pats had 0.5% chance of winning the game according to Pro Football Reference, I think ESPN had them at 0.7%. Easily biggest choke ever
