Boom 5 BigXII teams in the AP top 25

1. KU
2. TU
12. KSU
19. TAMU
23. TTU

OkieLite ~36th, Baylor ~45th. Two nationally televised games on ESPN2 tonight, OU at home versus UTEP and Okie hosts La Salle. I don't know a lot about La Salle but 2 of their 3 losses are to Nova and KU, so it could be a good one.

They both "hosted." Played in the Ford Center in OKC. They do this every year and usually get pretty good opponents like Gonzaga and Pittsburgh in the past. Pretty weak this year but UTEP did take it to OU.

Was talking about UT. They were #20 in attendance last season (avg/game). While not great, it's not terrible. They had 18 home games and brought in 249k people all season (13.8k/game). Kansas was averaging 16.4k/game, not hugely better (#13).

The biggest surprise on the top 20 is New Mexico, at #18 with 14.3k/game. Obviously in a city like Albuquerque where there aren't too many other sports options, it's probably a big draw.

Looking at the stats for last year, it's pretty funny how bad some teams are for support-
Coppin St. - 4,534 total fans, 453/game.
Nicholls St- 4,554, 414/game.
St. Francis(NY) - 5,215, 373/game

All hopes to Roland for a speedy recovery. That looked and sounded pretty scary. Kid is a brave guy though, stayed really calm.

On another note, I would have laughed at you if you told me a few days ago that Texas would beat MSU while shooting less than 50% from the line as a team.

yeah, i would have too.

I need to curb my enthusiasm for this team. I am way too excited right now. We're able to beat UNC by playing Pittman and dominating inside, then come back 4 days later and beat MSU by playing James, Johnson, Balbay, Bradley and Brown during crunch time. The defense was absolutely suffocating during the last part of the game.

After the game my friend and I were talking about shooting percentage, and how this team does not need to shoot lights out to win, we're doing it with defense, hustle and rebounding, three things that shouldn't have an off night like shooting will.

With Pender's teams we had to shoot lights out to beat anyone good. And if we played someone good and were not shooting good it got ugly.

MSU played a very good zone D on us and we needed Hamilton and Brown to knock down some 3s to get us back in the game.

This UT team just handles man to man so much better since their athleticism can create matchup problems at multiple positions but they really need to have somebody who can consistently knock down the outside shot to beat teams that play good zone defenses.

It seems you can only play up to 20% of your teams games to get the redshirt, and we're 11 into a 29 game schedule.

Finally, he's best friends w/ 2 other seniors, Donald Sloan and Bryan Davis (who were both crying when his leg broke before the play was even over, most people watching thought he just sprained his ankle but then the entire team looked sick to their stomachs, reports today say one of the trainers fainted treating him) so I think he's ready to move on anyways. He'll find a home in Europe if he recovers, he's athletic and is an all Big XII 1st-team defender. He and Sloan grew up together, after the injury Sloan and Davis were a combined 1-15 from the field, safe to say they had a hard time getting over it.

I think it's 30%, but 11 out of 29 would put him over the limit anyway.

Not watching that video. I saw a horrific injury in person and I can't watch or even think about that stuff. I don't understand the people that enjoy watching that ****.

Nebraska was down at one point 37-5 tonight against BYU, yikes. Somehow, they cut it to 14 at half but that was about as close as they got.

Tech UNM tonight, should be a good one. UNM lives/dies by the 3, Tech needs to do a good job fighting over high screens, that's what cost A&M the game earlier this month.

Conference play starts Saturday!

Match-ups
CU@tu
KSU@Mizzou
NEB@A&M
OU@Baylor
Tech@OkieLite
(Iowa State hosts ND State)

My Rankings and thoughts (which mean absolutely nothing)

1a. Kansas -- Was down on them a bit, then they buttraped Temple, I just don't see any holes and Henry will do nothing but get better all year.

1b. Texas -- Was up on them until the close call vs. TAMUCC. Some might view the Arky game as another stumble but I saw them put away a feisty team on the road...sounds like something that could come in handy during conference play. Bradley is my new Durant, love to watch him play.

3. Kansas State -- Not all that tested, but they're whooping everybody lately including some major conference teams.

4. Baylor -- 3-4 teams could go in this spot, but I like what I've seen/heard about their guard play (Carter/Dunn) and newfound inside presence in Udoh. Depth appears to be an issue. They could be too high here but w/e, they're solid.

5. Texas A&M -- Rebounding from loss of Roland will be tough, Hibbert/Middleton are two big recruits that need to start acting like it. Donald Sloan continues to be one of the best players no one outside of the Big12 has heard about.

6. Missouri -- Not giving up on Mizzou, tough to scheme for this team and I loved the energy I saw in their big win vs. Illinois.

7. Texas Tech -- not sold on Tech, if you don't play D in this conference, you're going to be in for a world of hurt. Washington win starting to lose some luster.

8. OkieLite -- Honestly not sure what to make of this team, only watched them one time in their close win against Stanford. I like their backcourt experience but the one semi-tough road test they faced they failed miserably earlier in their loss @ Tulsa.

9. Iowa State -- Brackins/Gilstrap are going to give teams trouble, the rest of Iowa State...not so much.

10. Oklahoma -- Not counting out a Warren-led team but they're certainly one of the bigger disappointments in college basketball this year. They'll need a strong Big12 showing to make the tourney due to a couple head-scratching losses in non-conference.

11. Nebraska -- Beat USC and Tulsa then proceeded to get worked over by BYU, probably just not enough talent on the offensive end to win more than 5-6 conference games.

12. Colorado -- They're going to make you work to win games, but all of those good feelings coming out of Maui were quickly tempered after three more losses including a 25-point beatdown by Tulsa.

Iowa State getting ready to play Duke.

I'd like to see ISU keep it close, but probably not going to happen.
