I haven't seen one of these on the frontpage yet, so here is one.

KU rules, MU surprised UT, KSU over OU in a very good game. I think we've got a strong conference this year. I predict the following teams will make the tournament:

KU
KSU
UT
Texas A&M
OU

Bubble teams:
MU
Texas Tech

Nebraska only 3 losses after losing to KU. Aleks Marics (sp?) from Nebraska is damn good, first team all conference imo.

Huskers played an awful non conf schedule. only good wins are ariz st. and oregon. they completely blew the game at W. Kentucky which would have been a real decent win come bubble time. That said, NU could easily finish 4th or 5th.

Maric and it will be a joke if he isn't 1st team.

also, KSU sucks. Beasley is awesome, but KSU still sucks and I think they have a sucky coach.

that could be fun, let's rank the coaches. this will be sure to piss people off. I'm going to rank them as to who I would want running my program right now if my only goal was to win it all (sorry, Coach Knight.) Admittedly, I don't know enough to be doing this, but I'm going to do it anyway. If you don't know about Sadler, you will soon enough. I was never all that impressed by Turgeron at Wichy St. (I'm a huge follower of the Valley). I don't care much for Sutton. I think McDermott is a Dana Altman type who is much better suited to coach a team like Northern Iowa than a team like Iowa St. I like Anderson's style, but I don't really like his ingame coaching (from what I've seen). I don't think Bdzelik or however the hell you spell it can recruit well enough but I could be way off on that. Capel is very interesting and could easily be much higher. I thought OU really underperformed last year, but he could settle in nicely there.

1. Rick Barnes
2. Bill Self
3. Bob Knight
4. Doc Sadler
5. Mike Anderson
6. Mark Turgeron
7. Scott Drew
8. Jeff Capel
9. Jeff Bdzelik
10. Greg McDermott
11. Sean Sutton
12. Frank Martin

why Rick Barnes ahead of Bill Self?

I think Barnes is a better recruiter and a better ingame coach. I still want to see Self win with his own guys. He's on his way this year, that's for sure. If the NBA had the 3 years in college rule like the NFL did, Barnes would have a 'ship by now. TJ Ford, Aldridge, and Durant for 3 years each? Scary.

After 15 games for Frank Martin, it's absurd to rank him as a horrible coach.

Barnes over Self is a joke.

Self is a better recruiter that Barnes, hands down. the only reason why Durant went to Texas was because Barnes was willing to recruit a player that he knew was only going to stay for one year. Bob Knight said that he would never recruit a player like Durant.

Barnes over Self is a personal preference I guess. Just not a huge, huge fan of Self, though obv he's a real good coach. Martin is overmatched. He's been in the college game for how many years? I just don't see anything that qualifies him to coach in the Big 12 conf. other than being in the right place at the right time. K St. has some serious talent. I have little doubt that that they will underachieve. If I'm wrong, I'll say I was wrong. I'd rather have any of the other eleven.

Ok, you got me there. Great point..

By no means am I a Frank Martin backer. I think K-State probably made a bad hire. Time will tell. In the meantime, I looked up his bio on the KSU website. Apparently he’s coached at Cincinnati for four years, some of it under Hugs, and at Northeastern - six years total in 1A.

The resume is a bit slim. If K-State finishes below 6th I would say they underachieved. They’re probably the fourth or fifth best team in the conference.

KU you could run the table.

exactly.

I have nothing against the guy. Hell, I saw his TV show and thought he was a pretty likeable guy. He was talking about he took it easy on his team when they had several games in a short stretch. He then admitted they got worse and said he wouldn't make that mistake again. So, I like that he was able to publically admit his mistake. On the other hand, his inexperience is a glaring weakness compared to everyone else who has cut their teeth at smaller schools as the head coach.

Martin was hired to keep Walker and Beasley from jetting after Huggins left

True. It was not a good long-term solution.

At least when KU hired Ed Manning to wrap up Danny Manning, he was made an assistant.

Correct, and I think it was the right move. I agree that he appears to be in way over his head, but this class was needed to give K-State a shot at being relevant again.

It's early but so far -

Baylor, yes that Baylor, has looked fantastic.

A&M and Mark Turd-gen have disappointed.

K-State could easily start 3-0 with a win at Colorado.

Which Mizzou team is going to show up when it plays is anyone's guess.

O-State is horrid.

I still say KU may not lose a game.

Can anyone identify the best team in the south division?
