Was anyone else 100% sure the refs were somehow going to make Mizzou forfeit for the fans being on the field before the final play was over? Paranoid about being cursed? Me? Nooooo? So barring a Stoops protest, how does it all go wrong for Mizzou?

a) Lose to Nebraska next week.

b) Lose to KU at arrowhead.

c) Lose to OU in the b12 title game.

d) Go undefeated and get shut out of the BCS title game.

e) Other.

Can any of you think of a single reason you'd take the Texas side of the line next week vs. Baylor? Any?

Let's go ahead and throw the floor open, because I don't pay rigorous attention to NCAAF developments the way I used to (re: careful study of recruiting classes et al.)

Why is Texas so ****ing bad now (relatively - def the worst team of the Mack Brown era) ? Gilbert has been a pretty big dud, and we've been real lucky under Mack so far wrt getting quarterbacks that were ready to play when it was their time - I mean, even Chance Mock was pretty good, and Vince was right there to snap up the job. Are Greg Davis and, well, most of the position coaches on both sides of the ball as complacent and self-satisfied as I imagine them to be, given how systematically bad our, for example, receivers are?

Yes, look at Baylor's schedule and how they did against the 1.5 teams that had superior talent on both sides of the ball

they're not that good, they've played no one, and the two times they played teams with a pulse away from home they lost

now look at their non-con schedule, at TCU which would have been 80-0 had Patterson not called the dogs off. They have the worst D you'll see all year and your team will be hungry after getting embarrassed last week, much like how they responded after UCLA playing a better game vs. OU then beating Nebraska.

texas can't kill anyone, I'm pretty sure. Reasons why Texas isn't good:

1. No identity on offense/coaching/Greg Davis (give him credit for what they did last week though which was the smart way to try to win that game.)
2. Gilbert is not very good.
3. Average OL
4. No every down RB on the roster
5. No real playmakers on offense
6. Not much depth on defense
7. Not very good DT play from what I've seen.

I don't think Texas will kill Baylor as long as Greg Davis is running that offense, the lack of down the field shots they take is just mind boggling.

I agree with pretty much all of this; I'm stunned at how thin / bleh we are at DT and OL. Looking back it seems like an awful lot of top line recruits have washed out. I think Tre 'KitchJu' Newton deserves a good deal more burn. Can you explain your thoughts re 'the smart way to win that game?' I was actually in and out all day yesterday and maybe saw a quarter and a half all told.

Not to defend that sack of **** at all but it seems like our offense is hella underprepared in terms of intermediate route trees, efficiency, being where you're supposed to be etc. Greg is also QB coach so he gets a double hit for the whole thing, but if I were firing UT coaches I might start with WRs coach Bobby Kennedy, whose boys are really puking all over their shoes. Worst group of guys I can recall, hell, we were better in '00 when three freshmen (Roy Williams, B. J. Johnson, Sloan Thomas) just had to leap over the other guys and play.

I think Gilbert is a little better than you are giving him credit for, mainly because

1. He's a first year starter under a huge microscope with very high expectations placed on him
2. Lack of any real weapons around him, which makes any quarterback look a lot worse

But why do our receivers have such AIDS? Just personnel runbad? And, as I said earlier, Texas has had a pretty fortunate stretch of QBs, wrt being ready to play. Applewhite, Simms is pretty underrated, Vince could just out-real everyone on the field before he really learned to quarterback, Colt was very good as a freshman.

when I said credit for winning to Davis, I'm talking about the Nebraska game. Using the QB in the run game, milking the clock, playing field position. He basically took Nebraska's plan from the B12 title game last year and used it against them which is what you do when you're outmanned but have a good defense.

Oh, well. I mean, it's hardly a huge leap for Greg to adopt a 'let's be really conservative, safe and put it on somebody else's shoulders to make plays / win us the game / get there one time.' It was optimal the one time, high fives all around.

Believe me, I'm not making excuses for him and think you'd be better off without him just like everyone else. I did like a few of their new wrinkles last week, that's all.
