If Stanford only had one loss then would they have gone to the BCS national championship over Auburn? Does it matter whether the one loss was to Utah or USC?

I don't think a 1loss sec champ ever gets passed on for a different 1loss team

I really hope Alabama doesnt get selected for the Orange bowl because they would murder Clemson.

Oklahoma is such garbage.

Bama Baylor or Bama Oregon would be so sick.

These games are all yawn fests. OSU fans have to be pretty happy to play Clemson instead of FSU

Clemson might be the worst bcs choice ever.

A decidedly mediocre 9-3 Illinois got an at large for the Rose Bowl the year Ohio St played LSU for the title.

That's the worst non-mandatory (either conference champ or undefeated mid major) pick I can remember.

Poll voters definitely acting deliberately to make Oklahoma BCS eligible.

Agreed. I don't get Clemson at all. Orange can pick any team in the 12 (plus UCF), right? I get that they have ACC ties, but they aren't forced to pick an ACC team if the ACC champs go to the NC game. So why not pick Oklahoma or Oregon instead? Does Clemson travel that much better?

Only reason why I am happy is people will switch to the Cotton Bowl when a QB throws 500 yards on us.

Wait, people complain about Clemson getting an at large bid and not about the even worse tOSU?

Clemson is going to massacre tOSU.

It was mandatory in some sense.

Here was the final BCS standings:
1) OSU (Title)
2) LSU (Title)
3) VT (Orange*)
4) Oklahoma (Fiesta*)
5) Georgia (Sugar)
6) Missouri (Ineligible when Kansas picked)
7) USC (Rose)
8) Kansas (Orange)
9) WVU (Fiesta)
10) Hawai'i (Sugar, think forced)
11) ASU
12) Florida (inelible when Georgia Picked)
13) Illinois (Rose)
14) Boston College

The only team that could have gone to the Rose instead of Illinois was ASU, and it would be dumb to take 2 Pac-10 teams who already played, or Boston College. Someone was going to have to take Illinois. They could have taken Kansas, I guess, but it would have just changed who went to the Orange.

I know this might be hard to understand for you, but playing Texas or LSU in a bowl is much preferable to playing a very mediocre KSU in a game that nobody will watch.

Well Tempe AZ s it. NU may be #3 in the state + an easy drive from two well travelling fanbases, for an also-ran bowl.

It's only NON-mandatory to the point bowl is willing to risk pissing off the decision-makers at the Unis who could replace them easily. Has a BCS ever snubbed their own conference?

Yeah but what is the ACC gonna do next year or any year they get invited back to the Orange bowl? Refuse the bid and the corresponding million$? Seems like the bowl has all the power in this instance, or at least most of it.

fellas,

my sources tell me OSU would be a 10 point favorite on a neutral field over auburn.

also OSU's schedule is just as if not harder than auburns.

PAC 12 = SEC

will keep you posted.

how many times has a bowl had a chance to snub their affiliated conference? cant think of a time it ever made sense because they are affiliated with the conferences that are close by so fans can get their easily.

There was no way the Rose wasn't taking the only available Big Ten school in that situation.

The BCS bowl selection rules and procedures are:

1) Available publicly via a pretty easy Google search
http://www.bcsfootball.org/news/story?id=4819597

2) Like 6 paragraphs long.

Also they've been in effect for like 15 years.

The BCS selection rules have changed from time to time. They haven't had the same exact rules for 15 years especially since there are 4+1 these days and it used to just be 4 BCS bowls. They've also tweaked the "Notre Dame" rules occasionally plus added the BCS buster rules and further changes to those.

Well, true, but like in whichever thread it was that guy argued with you about the Orange Bowl getting Alabama and Ohio State or whatever. We've had a lot of threads and posts about this stuff.
