OSU was missing a few defenders in the Cal game.
Yes, the defense is not good, but not as bad as people make it out to be. They seem to be streaky of having very mediocre games or great games. Northwestern, Iowa, Cal all mediocre games. Michigan just plain awful. Then some really good ones in their (Purdue to 2.0 YPP (yes, lol Purdue, but still the least Purdue put up by a longshot), Indiana (2 garbage time TDs, they put up big numbers in all games except Wisconsin), PSU, SDSU).
OSU has no trouble shutting down run-based offenses with crap QBs. They cannot cover screens for coaching reasons. I basically called OSU a rich man's A&M. Slightly worse offense, decent amount better defense.
OSU's D about 25th in the country. Not awful but certainly not good.
I think you are underestimating how awful MSU's offense is. They are worse than every Ohio State opponent except Buffalo (barely) and Purdue. There's a reason the predicted score is 28-22.
LOL Auburn's D ranked 64th. Now that's an awful D.
