Serena absolutely pounded the ball those last few games. Kontaveit played well but Serena was in vintage form that last set.

Part of me wants GOAT Serena to heroball and win it all and part of me wants her whiny ass to choke hard in the clutch

I thought she retired cause being a parent was too tough for her

Serena is likely to lose one of her next few matches because she is 40 and winning Grand Slams is hard. But she isn't likely to lose because of the bolded. She handles match pressure about as well as any player I have ever seen.

exactly. and as she said last night she has nothing to prove (obv). it's highly unlikely she's going to be able to grind out the title in this slam as her movement and stamina just aren't going to be there over two weeks. what's great, though, is that this thing didn't end in the first round (or now the second round). she's created lasting memories in what is undoubtedly her swan song

Bad take. It is probably the only women's sport other than gymnastics that is worth your time. I'm maybe forgetting one other.

Skating I guess. But gymnastics and skating are questionable sports imo. They are athletic and entertaining, but so is breakdancing, pole dancing, yoga, etc.

Not tonight, but ...

These slow starts by Rafael Nadal are going to catch up to him, someday.

This woman playing against Serena is hitting some fantastic ground strokes under pressure. I'm impressed.

I haven't tried the other sports you mentioned, but yoga can be no joke and hard as hell.

Looking forward to Medvedev-Kyrgios. I'm guessing Kyrgios -130.

My point was that something can be difficult and athletic, but that doesn't really make it a true sport. Dancing is not a sport, no matter how you spin it. Gymnastics, skating, etc are just variations of dancing. Just like painting and writing novels aren't sports. IMO.

Yeah, Medvedev was -200 in Canada and got beat. He is 1-3 vs Kyrgios lifetime IIRC. Not a good matchup for Med IMO but I can understand him being favored. I will be on the other side ofc.

Gymnastics not a sport? I guess you could say soccer is a variation of dancing also.

Medvedev -180
Kyrgios +150

I think the winner of this match gets to the final. So if you like Kyrgios you would probably want to bet him at +500 to win the whole thing too.

+1

in what world are the vault, uneven bars, and balance beam 'just a variation of dancing'?

Simone Biles is arguably one of the top 3 or 4 athletes of her generation

smh
