“I am very much looking forward to making a return to competitive play at the Southern California Open. I remember winning the singles and doubles here in 1997 and winning the singles again in 1999. This has always been one of my favorite events to play,” Hingis said. “I feel in good shape at the moment after playing World Team Tennis. My competitive spirit is still very much alive and I love being out on court. The tournament at Onmi La Costa Resort and Spa is the perfect place for me to start.”

The 32-year-old Hingis will be making her first WTA tournament appearance since September 2007. The former number one player in the world captured 43 career WTA singles titles, including five Grand Slam singles championships and 37 career WTA doubles titles, including nine Grand Slam doubles championships.

I think Martina + Anatoxfa should make a good team. I remember Martina said years ago that she really respects her game and work ethic, and they like eachother a lot.

Racquet news:

Woz has been dumped by Yonex after they found out she was using a blacked out Babolat at Wimby and they're obv not thrilled about paying someone to use a non-yonex racquet.

Fed has switched from a 90" to 98" head size, perhaps realizing that he won't win another slam if he keeps shanking most of his backhands. He's playing Hamburg this week, should be interesting to see if his ball striking gets more consistent.

Tennis.com had a really good article on Federer's racquet change. Interesting quotes in it from Sampras (who used an 85 in. racquet his whole career) who said using a bigger racquet head felt like cheating to him and he wondered how much longer he could have dominated if he had changed to it during his career.
