Gotta remember all the Masters 1000s used to be 5 set Finals till that one time Nadal and I think Moya played some stupid 6hr match which ****ed them both for the next tournament the next day in a different country.

Guess we are just going to have to agree to disagree. You've made valid points and I do get that but i'm convinced Novak wins that final.

His first serve right after the double fault was awful as well as his second serve which subsequently cost him the point.

It's games/sets like that, that's the difference over 5 sets.

Well ya, Novak woulda been a massive favorite, I'm not disputing that. I'm just saying Thiem has held his own against GOATs. Are you saying the 2020 AO Final was never in doubt and it was just inevitable Novak would win? If so, where do we draw the line? Does Cilic's 2014 USO not count either? It seems very clear to me that Thiem is playing at a higher level than Cilic ever did.

Pretty impressed with Thiem this tournament. He's come up with some clutch shots in big moments against top players. I would even dare say he's displayed some WIM at times.

That's a super clean set of tennis for Nadal on an indoor court. His half volley at 0-15 up 5-3 was Fed-like.

Meddy wins the 2nd set TB, turning point being a lucky frame/mishit overhead at 4-3 that fell in.

This would be a pretty big missed opportunity for Nadal with Novak losing.
