Things People Should Stop Asking Tennis Players In The Post-Match Interview:

"You'll be playing the winner of the ______ vs. _______ match in the next round, what are your thoughts on that, and who would you rather face?"

No player has ever given an answer other than a generic "it'll be a tough match either way blah blah blah."

Of course the player usually has a preference for which opponent they think would be an easier match, but it's stupid to say it out loud to the media. It's such a dumb question that gets asked EVERY ****ing time after every match.

Ugh, the ads affixed to that clip the whole time are annoying.

Anyway, I liked that this happened, and it's even more if there was genuine anger at the time. These charity events are so incredibly lame, the players don't go all-out. It's like showing off a Ferrari but having the governor on it set to not exceed 25 MPH. Yet these things sell tickets somehow so evidently people enjoy them.

I remember about a decade ago they had another one of these with Sampras and Agassi but it was even worse, their doubles partners were like Kelsey Grammer and some other TV personality. I don't doubt Grammer and the other guy were decent country club players but watching the four half-ass it around the court while making lame jokes was just cringeworthy. Espvecially the tennis guys, who aren't natural entertainers aside from playing and really failed at ad-libbing anything of non-fail.

(Plus stingy people suck, I'd rather hang out with a tweaker like Agassi all day than some alligator armed dude like Sampras, which is extra embarrassing since he's rich.)

Has Federer even played an ATP event since the Open?

Federer has pretty epic game selection.

I had the pleasure of watching him play in London last year at the end of year masters or whatever it is (read, don't sit in the cheap seats at the 02, comical how bad they are). He plays the bigger masters events throughout the season.

He'll play *Madrid (or is it Barcelona) + Monaco before the French open if memory serves correct.

Then he plays in Germany before Wimbledon.

Actually got to see it happen in 2006. Lleyton Hewitt got knocked out in the second round by Chela on the third day of the Aussie Open IIRC, and as such we pined our singles hopes on two absolute spuds in Peter Luczak and Nathan Healey. Luczak wins his second match, has to play either some spud or Tommy Haas. His responds with something along the lines of not playing Haas, because his actually pretty good...

EDIT: The other player was Paul Goldstein, who got drubbed by Haas 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 lol...

I don't watch all of the early rounds, but when I saw that was the matchup I made sure to catch it. Just looks like PK makes Novak so uncomfortable. I'm still not sure how he survived that one.

You just have to love his heart and effort though, time and time again you'd think he'd more or less give up, but he comes back fighting every time.

I wouldn't complain if he were to win Wimbledon.

wondered how i snagged tickets to Indian Wells saturday allday ticket (both mens singles semis, mens & womens doubles finals) for $35. realized it's cuz watching tennis from grandstand < watching on tv.

i still can't figure out what happened in the nadal match. rafa was absolutely nailing the lines in the 1st set and got to so many balls i just shook my head. if we were allowed one mortal lock call in our life, i would've made it after the 1st set. not sure what changed in the 2nd set. from above it certainly seemed like nadal was not getting around shots as well - was this due to decreased movement ability, or ljub hitting body shots? i'm not sure. extraordinary willpower by ljub though. had to be happy for him when he won and celebrated.

Really? I've only been to one tennis tournament and I was surprised at how cool it was to watch live. I don't see how $35 tickets is a sign that nobody wants to watch it live. I recall the announcers saying they broke the attendence record this year at IW.

ATP has a cool bracket game for every one of their 1000 masters events + slams. It's like march madness, only tennis, and x15! Prizes for top brackets in each event, plus cumulative overall winner (though it started with IW).

yeah i was just expressing my disappointment vs my heightened expectations. $35 was a special promotional price celebrating their 35th anniversary or something. it was extremely crowded... even the upper deck (where my $35 seats were) were just about full, particularly for the Roddick match. It sucked though because I got predetermined seat numbers... only to find my seats were on undivided metal bleachers. Super uncomfortable sitting on that for any extended period so we frequently left. The view was much better going slightly lower... like grandstand bleachers < tv << top of first level seating. Unfortunately we could only stand, and eventually were waved off by IW security. Would definitely save up to pay for courtside tickets one day.
