Which of the athletes in the poll was the most dominant compared to his peers? In other words, for which of these athletes was the gap (however you'd define it) between him and #2 the largest?

I'd say Tiger or Wilt, but I voted Tiger since he seems to have tougher competition. Honorable mention goes to Rulon Jones.

In all seriousness, anyone who votes for someone other than Babe Ruth really should just stop posting.

Good point, it's easy to forget that people weren't hitting 50+ every year back then.

Tiger is so much better than the competition it is almost unfair. He competes against a field of players while everyone on the list competes against teams or 1v1. I love MJ the most but he isn't even close to Tiger when it comes to true dominance.

Guys, Babe Ruth hit more HRs than entire teams.

You really can't vote against Tiger here. Golf is being played at a higher level than ever before, yet Tiger is miles ahead of everyone else. You constantly see polls like "Tiger vs. the field."

Anyone who votes for Babe is a fish. You can't dominate baseball.

FYP. As soon as I saw the thread title I thought of MJ.

IDK Clark has a point there. The fact that the "fields are tougher" shouldn't play into this poll, since it's about the player and his peers. IIRC, Babe led the league in offensive production for 14 years running...

I don't think it's as much of a runaway as Clark, but he makes a very valid argument.

What impresses the most about Tiger is how he does it with so few starts, though.

Black people weren't allowed to play with Babe.

That has nothing to do with how dominant he was though.

I go and play basketball with 4 year olds. I'll score on every possession and they will never score. Does this make me the most dominant athlete of all time?

No, because "Tbach vs. the 4 year olds" it isn't the only major professional sports league in the country.

Ruth, no question about it. When he hit 60 HRs no other team in the league hit 60. Although until a few years ago steroids testing in MLB was very lax so we can never be sure if his records are legit.

Babe definitely over the top in his time plus he could pitch, too. Looney Tunes' "Gashouse Gorillas" pretty much modeled entire lineup after the Babe iirc

Babe from this list.... for a few short years, Mike Tyson would get serious consideration, but not for a "career"
