THE ALL TIME NBA DYNASTY DRAFT THE ALL TIME NBA DYNASTY DRAFT

Pick 91:

I'm taking NBA Legend Jerry Lucas

http://www.basketball-reference.com/...lucasje01.html

6'8", 230 lbs, PF

15.7 pgg
14.8 rpg
3.1 apg

Lucas was already a household name by the time he entered the NBA. His first team already featured 3 NBA All-Stars, including Oscar Robertson. As such, they had scoring covered and Lucas decided to focus on rebounding. He responded by averaging 17.4 rebounds a game, including several games with over 30 and one game with over 40, the only performance ever hitting that number from a forward in the NBA. He averaged over 15 boards/game for his career, topping out with a few seasons of over twenty. Rebounding percentages weren't calculated back then, but it's hard to say that he wouldn't be way up on those lists. Between him and Moses Malone, it's possible I'll have the best rebounding in the league.

I said previously that Lucas focused on rebounding his rookie year, but it didn't seem to take away from his ultra efficient offense. Lucas led the NBA in FG% his rookie year and was in the top 10 7 times. His career TS% is .544, topping out at .590, which is very, very good for that era. He averaged 15.7 points per game for his career, and I think he is the perfect third option for a roster already featuring Elgin Baylor and Moses Malone. Furthermore, he was considered to be one of the most accurate shooters of his time (and percentages reflect this), and I've come across his name as being one who would benefit from a 3 point line. Lucas was also a minutes hog, playing 38.8/game for his career and almost 35,000 total for his career.

He was 5-time All NBA, 7 time all star, 15th All-time total rebounds, Hall of Famer, made the 50 Greatest Players list, 18.9 career PER (lol PER for old dudes tho), Gold Medalist, 1964 ROY, 1965 All Star MVP, etc., etc. Jerry was a boss and fits perfectly with what I want from the PF position on my team.

Team:
C: Moses Malone
PF: Jerry Lucas
SF: Elgin Baylor
SG: Joe Dumars

my plan is to have him play defense against the finesse centers and have karl play against the power centers. My plan is to have a really good offense in which every player is a good passer and can shoot the jump shot very effectively while everyone is also a B defender or better. It's debatable whether Pau is a B defender but he should have no trouble fitting my team offensively and thats why I wanted to trade for him.

Cardsman, can you please explain your reasoning on this trade? With my West/MJ trade, I could at least understand his thought process even if he was wrong. Here, I just don't understand why you would ever move down 42 spots now to move up 15 spots later. What player are you targetting that you think you couldn't get at 163 but could get at 148 and what kind of value could that player possibly have that justifies passing on a player you could get at 103?

He's got 8 years of really good to elite production imo, followed by 6 years where he can still be a very good bench player. Interesting stat, he's the only player in history to lead the league in scoring and TS% in the same season.

This format where players are "just as effective" benefits him even more as he won 3 scoring titles in a row scoring over 10% more ppg than 2nd each year while ranking 1st, 4th, and 20th in TS%.

I was going to take Mullin and play him at SG until I traded for Baylor/Dumars. Definitely time for him to go.

Mullin's a nice pick. Would've been pushing really hard to pick him if he somehow fell to us at 107.

indeed, you're picking up a player in round 4 that will be the best offensive weapon in the league in year 2

Round 4, middle of it:

Spoiler:

Vlade Divac.

There aren't many 7 footers left that can play basketball and chew gum at the same time, but I'm getting one of 'em. Vlade has a bunch of things going for him individually, and even more going for him in the scheme of my team.

Let's start at the beginning. He was on the all-rookie team, and was relatively effective right away. In fact, starting his first year in the league, he posted 12 out of 13 years of 17+ PER. He was an efficient offensive player and a solid FT shooter for a big (career 70% shooter). Most importantly, he developed into a great passer-- average ~4 assists per 36 minutes. From what I remember of those Kings teams, they were able to run the offense through his high post passing and he was able to stretch the defense with a respectable jumper.

Defensively, he appears to be a definite positive-- if you look at his individual D rating numbers and D winshares (I have no idea how much these #s actually matter) in the table below. Truthfully, I'm not going to slob on his knob for his defense-- all I know is that he's 7'1" 250, and he banged with Shaq back in the day. I think he did an okay job. I don't know if he'll be a positive in this league, but he should at least help me contain the #1 option big men in this league, with the help of some Shawn Kemp weakside shotblocking of course. [along with 1.7 blocks per 36, he averaged 1.4 steals per 36 minutes-- I did not look up comparisons to other centers, but that seems very high... he's a crafty Euro!]

Speaking of crafty, **** it, some of those first round centers are really good:
Quote:
Veteran NBA forward [undrafted] claimed that Divac might have been the best of all time at flopping. Divac freely admitted doing so, adding that he usually did it when he felt like the officials had missed some calls and owed him.
Numbers:

Vlade played in 93.5% of possible NBA games in his first 15 seasons (In fact, he missed 2/3 of the season in year 3, but came back and played in the playoffs). He played in at least 79 games 12 times, remarkable for a man of his stature (looking through big men, I've found that an astonishing number were marred by injury). Over 15 seasons, we're looking at 34k minutes at 30 mpg.

So, why does he fit so perfectly? Well, he's good right away (O, Durant, Kemp-- all good in their first few years). He stays good for a long time (O plays 14 remarkably consistent seasons, Durant has been durable) so he'll be there through thick in thin, when Kemp is dynamic and when Kemp is old, fat and coked out and just wants to shoot 15 footers. But, most importantly, spacing. Spacing is perhaps the most important concept of offense in basketball. We'll be able to space the floor like those turn of the century Kings teams-- Vlade can play in the high post and move the great weakside shotblockers of this league out of the paint. He can create space in the low block for O, Durant, and Kemp to exploit their individual matchups. He'll be able to pass to slashers or shooters, pick-n-roll or pick-n-pop with O, or go inside outside from the low block. We also know that he can play in an uptempo system, so he's probably a great outlet passer!

PG - Oscar Robertson
SF - Kevin Durant
PF - Shawn Kemp
C - Vlade Divac

Now that's a fast break!

Mullin's lack of everything but shooting/scoring and the occasional steal was off putting to me. And don't let the steals numbers fool you. He had incredibly quick hands, but that doesn't mean he could stay in front of someone, especially in his last 5 or so years.

Like the Grant Hill pick a lot. You get 6 very good years before the injuries kick in. After the injuries die down you get a nice roleplayer. Seems like good value.

go back up thread a little bit, I already said I f'd up because I was at work and I rushed it, I'll live with the consequence. Plus, it's conditional and if WW gets sniped it's a moot point.
