he's a boob who makes lot of bad in-game decisions. there were points this season where things were very dicey and there was a decent fire Farrell train going. He basically has this job cuz he had cancer. No chance he doesn't get fired after last season if he didn't get cancer.

He's not WOAT but I miss the prime TITO era.

wouldn't call JBJ, Betts, and XB hacking at balls variance. Sox lineup was pretty shaky in terms of plate discipline.

This is absolutely disgusting. This is somehow even worse than Jeter, Rivera, and Kobe retiring. And he has no where their credentials. The Indians won, yet he is hogging the spotlight like the ego driven idiot he always is.

Yeah, 1 for 9 and your team got swept 3-0 against a team that lost two of their top 3 starting pitchers. Yet you are so clutch and the playoffs are the reason you should get in the HOF.

Lol yeah so ego driven to come out when 30k people were chanting his name. It's not like this was the world series, pretty sure more people care about Ortiz retiring than Cleveland reaching the semi-final. If you can't understand why this means so much to people you're probably a sociopath.

Anyway congrats Cleveland, they seem pretty likable

Don't thing Pope is a psychopath but I strongly suspect he's 75 years old and has chronic pain issues. At least thats how I read his posts.

Ortiz crying about how he wanted to wear the Jersey one more time.

All he has to do is sign a contract and he can wear it 160 or 320 more times.

Never has a 40 year old player had a more perfect opportunity to continue playing. DH, city loves him, team will contend, and he's still hitting well.

Would be hilarious if he changes his mind and re-signs.

he really should come back. pretty crazy he is still an elite hitter and is just like "nahh" at collecting megabucks, but props to him. I always argue that athletes should spend more time thinking about the marginal value of more money, and Ortiz has probably realized that the only meaningful way an extra $16m affects him is a bit more money for his great grand kids. lifetime earnings of $160m or $176m is basically a wash in real world terms (and add up endorsements and the value of another $16m gets even smaller)

the flip side of that coin is he has the rest of his life to go fishing

heard that his feet are all ****ed up, and that's why he's not coming back

can't even handle DHing anymore

guess that's just how it goes as a big, fat 40yo tho

his wOBA was #1 in the majors. I'm guessing the foot story is overblown. but good for him, he's earned the right to do whatever he feels like

he's also the sort of guy who will do a ton of charity stuff so...him retiring is probably a good thing for the world

Papi decides to hang up the cleats, people hate on him. If he decided to come back and continue to painfully lumber around the bases on bad feet, people would hate on him for being fat and slow.

His no-testing agreement with the MLB was only for a year.
