i think Dee Gordon is more likely to get 0.400 than Adam Jones, not because he is the better hitter but because he is faster. He can turn more outs into hits than Jones can. He will hit less homers for free AVG boost but I think he will be able to sustain a higher batting average of balls in play (BABIP) due to the amount of infield hits he can rack up. They seem to be striking out at about the same rate, so that is moot.

AFAIK, average is basically constructed of those three factors. Either you hit a homerun, you strikeout, or you put a ball in play (in which case BABIP enters the equation).

In the 6th, with 2 outs and a runner on 2nd, the A's intentionally walked Machado to face Davis. I was then praying for the ultimate insult, a successive intentional walk of Chris to load the bases, thereby guaranteeing an end to the inning with Jones scheduled to bat next.
