I obviously have a bit more insight into the politics of this than probably anyone here because of my officiating career, but there has been a long track record of North American amateur hockey officials going over for IIHF tournaments and simply not getting games. Our head supervisor in the region worked both Albertville '92 and Lillehammar '94 and spoke about how much of a gongshow it was and the kind of treatment they got. And it hasn't changed.

So when that continues, you finally say "**** it, why should we cooperate?" And you stand firm on that and lol @ the IIHF and Fasel when they insist on trotting out their own severely unqualified zebras to **** things up.

The Spengler Cup is more important anyway.

I think we'd be at 4-3 right now if Gibson doesn't stand firm on that powerplay around the 10 minute mark. USA fully deserving of the wafflecrush scoreline here but this game could still look much closer. Canadians had a really strong push for 4-5 minutes there.

You do have more insight, but if this is the case, then it's just like taking your puck and going home.

If the NHL truly flexed their muscle, they could improve conditions for the game in lots of areas. Yet they continue to stay the course that makes them the most money rather than grow it in places where a ton of their players come from, and where a lot of non-NHL Canadians play.

There's plenty of blame to go around.

Hockey Canada needs to do whatever it takes to get Pat Quinn to come back next year. Their last few coaches have sucked ***.

I think it'd be wise for Hockey Canada to consider appointing a U20 staff that just focuses on the natty team for 1-3 seasons, instead of trying to do double duty with the team at Christmas and their own junior club for the rest of the season. I have to imagine that's a ridiculous workload for these guys.
