Nope.
In order to be onside, offensive players don't just have to stay behind the line of scrimmage (a line that extends through the forward point of the ball, closest to the defense). They have to stay out of the neutral zone as well, which is a strip the width of the football (approx. 11 inches) that separates the two teams. Basically, each team has to stay one their side of the football, with an 11" gap between them.

When you see the pics showing his toes "just a few inches" past the LOS, that mean the entire rest of his foot is in the neutral zone, which is offside. Actually, when you look at the pic below, it's clear his entire helmet and a good bit of his upper body is as well.

He was easily a foot or more offside, not an inch or two.

I make lines before the week, and I had CLE -4.5. It's true CHI presents a completely different challenge than JAC, but I agree it seems a bargain -3.

The biggest problem for CLE is their lack of running game. Flacco needs to be at least reasonably proficient to win, but CHI will be free to put a lot of pressure on him both in defensive looks and pass rush.

Seems like on over as well, something like 27-14 if Flacco does not go brain dead.

Steelers @ Raiders? I seem to recall Bradshaw throwing an INT around their 20, then fumbling late that allowed Raiders to kick short FG to win in regulation.

chefs receiver was offside, no complaints, his biggest mistake was not doing the thing where you check in with the line judge, but tbf they also seem to ignore those kinds of offsides from both sides many times in every game. the biggest problem with the game right now is the amount of cheating going on, and how the refs are just allowing it. of course the players are just going to keep pushing the envelope, and then it looks weird when refs selectively choose to enforce the rules

In legendary sportscaster news, NBC did Al Michaels dirty

Quote:
“It’s in my deal,” Michaels said. “Where are you hearing that from? That’s part of my deal. Are you hearing something that I’m not hearing?”
I hope another network picks him up and he needles NBC in brilliant subtle ways. Bonus points if he needles Collinsworth , but that'd be beneath him.

This pic is after Creed moved the ball. Creed likes to hold the point of the ball in shotgun, so he pulls it back more than most Centers. The LoS is the blue line, not the ball.

Also look at the side judge's foot. In most other screenshots I've seen of these things, the side judge has one foot on the LoS. In this case his foot is 6" to the left. It's possible this threw Toney off. I'm not sure if the side judge's foot is supposed to be on the line. But if you check all the other screenshots, it seems to be.

Notice where the side judge's foot is here:

Unfortunately NFL content blocks embedding. Here's how Al Michaels and Tony Dungy called the end of the 3rd biggest comeback in playoff history which apparently was his last game for NBC:

TNF on Amazon Prime feels like a funeral thanks crappy game selection and the combination of Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit. Nobody questions that the guy is a legend. But he's also almost 80.

Maybe, but who cares? He was offside and nobody questions that. Doesn't matter if it was 2 inches or 2 feet. He was off and a ref threw a flag. That's all that matters. Also doesn't really matter that they almost never call that penalty on the offense even though a robo umpire might find multiple violations in every game. Can't complain that the refs got the call right just because they usually don't.

Also. Offside is offside. Doesn't matter if it's _barely_ or not, it's a binary state, and it isn't a judgement call.

Its probably easier to prove the Earth is flat than Toney was not offside.

The cloud is that the Chefs have one of the top 100 dumbest pass catchers in the league.

The silver lining is that they don't have all 100 of them.

fair, almost 80 and despondent at the end of an epic playoff comeback. don't know how much of that was due to him being a chargers fan, which must be an excruciating hell i wouldn't wish on anyone. TNF is and always has been a funeral. just seems poor form to not inform him of your decision and instead let the new york post break the news to Al that he's being bumped for Ian Eagle's 20yo son.

I was thinking about a bet with Dom with my side being that Howard gets renamed Dak if I win, lol. I'm unsure if tortoises actually recognize their names though and seems unfair to Howard if they do.
