It's a great overall scheme. It really only has a handful of weaknesses in today's NFL playcalling. So its safe. But you are vulnerable to athletes out of modified empty, like we saw.
What I mean by modified empty is that the RB is still on the field so the defense likes to keep a 2nd LB on the field vs that RB. If they took the RB off and went 5 WR then the LB comes off and you get a true matchup of DB vs WR. But the modified is so teams can matchup against a motion RB to the backfield or whatever teams do, that orbit/jet/bucket motion we see today.
So cover 4 protects that some so that LB isn't on a island vs these athletic RBs. Problem is you just have giant zone holes opening up.
Alright I'm done with that, sorry.
I can't speak to the rest of the echo chamber here, but I just got back here. But, truth is, so much of that is over my head that I think I need to go spend some time in the remedial class.
I'm sure everybody appreciates your input. I'm trying to learn what I can from it, but I'm afraid I'm a D student at best. Thanks for trying to enlighten us!
