Yeah, I guess only a couple of key players on D... plus Gilmore missed 5 games to injury... and they had already lost Shelton, Collins & Van Noy... lot of holes to fill on D

the Saints being so many dozens of million over the cap and still franchising Marcus Williams was glorious.

Will be really fun to see what the totality of their cap related activity will be to get underneath the hard cap by the start of FA

Saints are gonna have to pay Ramsczyk and Lattimore very soon as well

I guess paying your starting QB like 10m will help. It does seem like if teams are willing to mortgage their futures like that with dead money then running a clean cap is pretty useless for a contending team, you're putting yourself at a huge disadvantage in those years were you can compete. Got to up the risk profile.

I don't know anything about Jonnu Smith, but I do know the best TE the Patriots have had over the last couple of years is 39 year old Ben Watson, so Smith seems like a great fit.

I have a question about the tag, if you tag and trade a guy isn't there a rule you can't use the tag again until his new deal is up or something? Otherwise why wouldn't the Lions just tag and trade Golloday?

Comparing their 1st two NFL seasons:

Jonnu Smith (29 gms)
38 rec/415 yds/5 TD
Dawson Knox (27 gms)
52 rec/676 yds/5 TD

Smith played TE in high school & has the most catches (178) & yards (2001) in FIU history for TEs. Knox was a HS QB that caught 39 passes in college.
