Mercedes pretty much killed it in the minors but with lack of a position he never really got a shot until now. If you watch his ab's he looks like a seasoned hitter. He has been a .300 hitter everywhere he has been.

Rays continuing to pound the Yankees is very enjoyable to witness.

I just checked his stats and you are correct. He's from the Pablo Sandoval school -- that is, a fat/big guy who doesn't run big strikeout totals.

Adolis's minor league stats also are more similar to his major league stats than I would have imagined. The question with him, I guess, is whether he is good for 200 Ks a year after major league pitchers adjust. If so, he is Joey Gallo. If can settle in as a 150 k per year guy, he is a star.

This is arguably the worst Yankees lineup I can remember. I would rather have 9 Alvaro Espinoza's in the lineup who can at least put the bat on the ball.

I'm sure you would rather have a guy who put up 3.9 WAR from 1984-1997.

Guy had a .279 career OBP with minimal XBH ability.

No one talked about this yet?

https://www.si.com/.amp/mlb/2021/06/...mpression=true

“To understand the fiasco of baseball’s 2021 season, which people around the game describe as sullied by rampant cheating to a degree not seen since the steroid era, all you have to do is pick up a ball”

Pitchers adding various sticky substances to balls help increase spin. Who’s the considered the most prolific user of sticky substances on balls? No surprise the biggest hypocrites in baseball the LA Dodgers.

“An SI analysis of Statcast data suggests that one team in particular leads the industry in spin: the defending world champion Los Angeles Dodgers.”

I read it earlier, just like sign stealing it is part of the game. It isn't a scandal unless MLB decides to single out smaller market players. I'm fine with MLB not doing anything.

I just scanned the article, but why can't they just grab the ball and test it for a foreign substance?

They have been doing that. MLB just doesn't want to turn a bag of worms into snakes.

Man, what a rough start for Kelenic. OPS is at .400 with a .103 avg. That's with a HR and 2 doubles 2nd game.

From what I've read, everyone is using something and they don't want to suspend every pitcher in the majors, and more importantly they don't know where to draw the line between stuff that is accepted and considered necessary so the pitcher knows where it's going (sunscreen, resin, licking fingers etc.) and the above and beyond stuff that has been experimented with in a pitching lab and adds serious rpm even to just some dude from the street trying it for the first time. They've never followed the letter of the law when it came to foreign substances, following the spirit of it worked for the longest time but now it doesn't anymore.

This vid is a pretty thorough breakdown of the last few years of 'sticky substances history' and how they are affecting pitchers' stats .... the numbers are pretty eye popping

cliffs: video narrator suggests the Dodgers contract for Bauer was partly to get access to his sticky substance formula

Lol, Cito hasn't been around in 20+ years. It's Shapiro, and he's put a pretty solid team together there. Bullpen is an area they definitely need to solidify though.

You forget he managed them from 2008-10. Kinda odd.

Well, he's also never been GM, only manager. That was mainly my point.

Uh ok. Btw, the kinda odd is that he managed those years, not that you overlooked them.

Oh, my bad.

I honestly forgot they brought him back. I thought it was for like a partial season or something. I don't catch a ton of NL East games though.
