The biggest problem with B10 football, other than not paying their players to the level of the SEC/B1G, is the level of coaching. Brohm and Frost are maybe the two best coaching hires of the last few years. That's dramatically improved the conference as a whole.
I mean as a whole top to bottom, sure it's possible.
Top tier talent, I just don't see it. Even past this year, I'd take Dylan McCaffery with 2 years of backup experience over Morgan and Coan.
I buy the hype with Frost and Fleck. I'm less sold on Brohm having long term success in high major CFB. Basing that mainly off a gut feeling.
The biggest problem the West faces, is that even with the coaching talent infusion for 2018 and 2019, they're still way behind UM, OSU, PSU in terms of recruiting talent. All of the B1G West teams are relying on finding 3* guys and turning them into big time players. It can be done, Michigan State has largely had success with that model for 12 years under Dantonio. But ultimately to compete year in year out, you need to recruit talent that can compete with Ohio State, and nobody in the West is close to that right now.
