398. Takkarist McKinley DE

"Takk McKinley was one of few bright spots for Atlanta’s injury-riddled defense in 2018... McKinley’s increased role (in year 2) helped him produce career highs in sacks (seven), tackles (22), and quarterback hits (15). Perhaps the most relevant stat for a defensive end, however, is their pressure rate. As pointed out by Next Gen Stats, Takk had the third-highest pressure percentage of all edge defenders in 2018 (15.6%)."

6 sacks + 2 more in the postseason was a strong rookie start. Improved last year looking especially good early in the season before ATL's D fell apart with injuries. Will turn 24 in November. Gives me another young DE with big upside for years 3-5.

Halpert is skipped.

I take Bashaud Breeland - 27 - CB - KC.

Not sure if he'll be the slot corner in the nickel or Greedy. We may move PP there as he ages.

Quote:
A fourth-round pick (No. 102 overall) in the 2014 Draft, Breeland emerged as a reliable option in the Redskins’ secondary right out of the gate. He played in all but four of Washington’s games over his four years with the team, tallying 261 tackles (206 solo), 60 passes defensed, nine tackles-for-loss, eight interceptions and seven forced fumbles.

Breeland’s best statistical season was in 2017, when he tallied a career-high 19 passes defensed. That ranked as the fifth-best mark in the NFL that year as Breeland broke up at least one pass in all but two of his 15 games.
He was a little hurt last year. But apparently the Chiefs weren't worried too much as they signed him. He's been the clear #1 CB in camp so far.

Well, I thought about a few different directions to go with this, but I probably should take a second linebacker and the only guy left I have any real positive thoughts on is Zach Cunningham

Hopkins going #2 overall didn't seem to get any negative reactions. Was that actually a solid pick?

I think overall people have avoided any & all harsh criticism in this thing. It seems suboptimal to me, though.

It was certainly surprising. I dont hate passing on a QB there if you choose to get an older QB late but my bigger issue was why then spend a high pick on Lamar if you are going to spend two top picks on WRs. If you have Lamar you arent throwing it 600 times in a season

Hopkins might have been my no 1 non QB in this so if you arent going QB I dont mind that being hte move. But yeah was surprising overall

I make surprising picks in these things. It's a whole synergy thing - with having Hopkins/Adams as my top two picks, I don't need an ultra precise pocket passer given the quality of targets available - anyone vaguely competent should be able to get production and Lamar is certainly not a one dimensional QB. At the same time, if someone tries to combat my receivers by bracketing one or both of them, it opens up everything for Lamar to take off, or dump off to Kamara/Ebron

Which is kind of why I picked Juszczyk - having avoided huge investment in the offensive line, I feel I needed some sort of blocking backup, and while fullback certainly isn't a sexy position in the NFL in 2019, having a three time straight Pro Bowler in the backfield if I go 21 personnel will allow for decent blitz pickups and general pass protection, lead blocking for Alvin, and he's no mug as a receiver out of the backfield

I was surprised many times in round 1. Think things got pretty solid after that but the draft started off very fun.

Russ falling to 7 was pretty whack, think he has good argument for #2. Think the QBs in their 30's were best value. Russ, Luck, Ryan, Rodgers.
