Bahhh. I say it should go to the team that either won the last game of the season before it got canceled or has the highest current winning streak......

My biggest regret was not being able to see Malcolm Subban take the ice for Chicago.

I’m not sure that was going to happen either way.

Lots of random playoff suggestions being thrown around for if the season resumes. Can’t help but feel like something that sets up Boston/TB only being able to play in the ECF will happen.

What happens to conditional trades dependent on playoffs? Like where Team X will recieve a Y round pick if Team Z makes the conference finals

was browsing historical archives for 1918 influenza pandemic and came across that they decided to just cancel it and didn't declare any champion

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1919_Stanley_Cup_Finals

Quote:
The 1919 Stanley Cup Finals was the ice hockey play-off series to determine the 1919 Stanley Cup champions. No champion was declared; the series was cancelled after five games had been played due to an outbreak of Spanish flu. It was the only time in the history of the Stanley Cup that it was not awarded due to a no-decision after playoffs were held.[1]
players got sick and one died so circumstances a little different

They can speculate all they want but if we look at other countries best case scenario is 60 days. I guess we can wait and see on Italian Soccer and EPL on how long they are down. Take into account how badly the USA is handling it and I would give Canada a Grade of C on its handling.

With all that taken into account we may see best of 3's at best till the final. Though if I was a betting man Id say no season. Someone pointed out the bylaws state the team in first gets the cup but this happened once before and the cup was not awarded. I do believe that was the Spanish flu era

This season should be allowed to continue as long as possible. If it pushes next year up 4 months, so be it. Play the SCF in August, start 21 in January. Play 40 games.

Players can't just pick up and start playing again after a certain amount of time. Going to need a 7-10 day training camp.
Once the worst is realized, I do think it's important that teams do play if possible. Life will go on and people need the things that make life enjoyable.

Now would be the time for an international tournament. Get all involved tested constantly. Find a single city to host and run a tournament.

IIHF words have been off for a while and seriously, without a crowd there's no fun in it. It really sucks for the IIHF as well because the top division revenue helps run the tournaments for the lower one. Quite a first world problem but some lower level hockey associations will be in trouble.

I doubt any of these sports leagues to resume won't give at least a week's notice before resuming, and players will be training and practicing before then.
