Leafs down 1-0 to Vegas going into the 3rd. Only Leaf line going at all is the Matthews line who are on pace for 16mins tonight. This stuff writes itself. Oh and they haven't had the lead in over 5 games...

vgk backup goalies are like 0-8 this season. well also the d stinks, the offense stinks and they can't stay out of the penalty box, so there's that to be concerned about too. don't think vgk can even beat a team that is tanking more than 25% of the time right now.
ffs

Hope you cashed in Malucci! #firebabs thx u

The warden at Shawshank was less obtuse than Babcock at this point.

Yup, I cashed. Fed it to some friends and they got frisky and puck lined things. I’m a hero until the next one.

Fleury was fantastic.

Stars super hot lately, Flames ice cold...what else is going on? Islanders going to get a point in every game this year it seems like.

Haven't watched any hockey this year -- or last few years -- mostly because my team is the Canucks. Just checked and they're above .500 and currently in wildcard playoff spot. Do the analytics support them, like are they actually now a playoff team (assuming not a real contender, but nevertheless playoff quality) or are they still a dumpster fire team running above expected value to start the season.

No need to pile on in the sense I lost interest w/ Benning and roster mgmt/construction. But it looks like Petersson is legit skilled and some other younger talent as well and they could be fun or be playing a style that's fan friendly!?

you should watch them, in my opinion they are one of the most interesting teams to watch

petersson is easily one of the most individually talented guys in the league, boeser isn't as flashy but analytically also among the best in the league, after that it's a dumpster fire so there should be plenty of goals when they are on or off the ice

Canucks would be fun to watch. They are overperforming now but they should be good in a few years. Watching their guys fly while young is entertaining. Better to watch now than to jump back on the wagon in a few years when they are a top 5 team.

I could watch his highlights for hours

Guy has some sick dangles, at least once per game he'll do something that I'll want to rewind and watch again but the main thing of beauty is his shooting

the way he so smoothly changes the angle of his launch right before shooting is something a lot of people don't understand the importance of

If the goalie thinks he's launching from 2 feet to his left but then right before taking the wrist shot he pushes it forward or further out an extra foot or two then quickly let's it fly the route the goalie was subconsciously planning on taking to block it gets disoriented - I'm bad at explaining it but it's significantly harder for the goalie to track and intercept

Just watch his first career goal at 0:45 in that video and the way he shifts it around so smoothly before launching is mesmerizing to me

Edit: the shift at 9:50 is a great example

He's been my favorite player to watch since halfway through last season and by a large margin too

Quite possible he will, I'm the same height as him and weighed about what he weighed when I was the age he was when drafted then gained about 20 pounds up to 200 by age 19 and was 220 by time I graduated college and that's where I am now, it can take a while for the body to naturally bulk up and unless his height is an NBA embellishment then he'll very likely weigh over 200 soon enough

That's actually one of the most amazing things, when I see him drift in the neutral zone with the puck it's pretty apparent how much people respect his quick bursts because you'll get 2-3 guys just skating backwards instead of stepping up and making contact... Just really goes to show his talent when he can just coast in the middle of the rink at 175 and nobody even attempts to flatten him

Worst case scenario he just stays super skinny like mcjesus at 6'1" 195, but given that he's 6'2" he should easily clear 200

Edit: actually his older brother is 25 and he's same size at 6'2" 175 so maybe he's done bulking?
