From where I stand (non british bloke having mixed up quite a bit with english culture and humour), I actually agree with the english posters mainly. def was mostly a tongue in cheek kind of thing then they got gifted a legit chance of advancing to the final (and with that a slight chance of actually shipping the whole thing since it remains a huge variance format) and they it shifted from non serious to somewhat serious as you would expect them to.

Of course they are going to start believing just because they are not good at football and unlikely to win it does not take away their right to shifting from the joke spirited thing to the actual belief.

seems like this debate only exists because people take a lot of importance in trolling england (which has been in fairness hilarious the last few years) and want things to be black or white and interpret everything literally as in its coming home memes equals everybody believe that england has a 100 per cent chance of winning the world cup.
