Sane was never getting in the first game over Reus anyway, I don't know why people that want him in the squad would be expecting him to play game one.

Germans just didn't foul or even put in challenges like the great club possession teams (barca/city) always do. Just can't play like that but be weak. The German central midfielders combined for one (!) tackle in the match. That's the story imo, with a little bit being how awful their full backs were.

didn't like half the German team get booked? they put in plenty of tackles, were just too slow

Caley posted something like they were 4/12 in 1v1 situations vs them in the 1st half
just couldn't handle the tricky little Mexicans

Can someone put Mexico over Germany in terms this mostly soccer-illiterate American can understand? IE - Douglass over Tyson?

Germany got 2 cautions, the first in the 83rd minute.

germans need to let rudy play dm. kroos and khedira together is never going to work. khedira has always been overrated anyway

pl slappies calling for sane is a little funny. it's the one position they are actually fine. get that köln midfielder to play leftback instead of this plattenfraudt guy and maybe play müller as the striker

Another question from a soccer-illiterate American...I have a big bet on Germany to reach the semis and Brazil to reach them as well. How possible is that now? I've seen people say they can meet in the quarters now.

Maybe Low should have selected Mustafi. Hummers and Boateng aren’t exactly used to being exposed by their midfield being ripped apart on the counter. Shkod would be right at home.

You're not new. They play to the level of their competition quite frequently. I didn't have anything on this match because I don't like betting heavy favorites and I'm not cheering for Mexico but I'll for sure be fading Mex next match.

They can meet in the Round of 16. They're in adjacent groups. If Brazil wins their group you're very much in trouble. Can you hedge off the German bet with Brazil tonight? Probably a terrible idea but maybe good for your sanity?

If Brazil finishes 1st (which they are big favorite to do) and Germany finishes 2nd (which they are about 50% to do), they will meet in last 16.

Same if Germany finishes 1st (40ish%) and Brazil finishes 2nd (unlikely).

Any other scenario and they won't play vs each other before the final

I think I'm just gonna ride it out. I also have bets on Germany to reach the quarters and a really big bet on Brazil to win their group.

Mexico does this, by the way. They drew Brazil in 2014 and they roasted France in 2010. It's surprising but it's not THAT surprising. It would be like if Creighton was a 14 and beat 3 seed Duke.

The point is we'd probably end up winning the group when it results in us getting the harder game.

We'll make the quarters though
