Chivu was on my short-list to partner Rio at the back so decent pick this late, although still a few good choices left out there so should get someone good to pair with Rio.

We need to get this draft back on track, slowing up terribly.

You're right kev.

Starting with the pick after Fonkey's (ie Kronen's pick), the time limit is being shortened to 9 hours. I hope we don't have to shorten it any more than that since it sucks when several people in a row start getting skipped but if the tempo doesn't pick up from here we may have to.

Also make sure to keep sending those PMs, they really do make a huge difference.

Guess I didn't need to send my pick to anyone after all, around for the evening now, hopefully fonkey picks soon

Is Fonkey on the 12 or 9 hour limit?

Just a heads-up that fonkey will be skipped in an hour.

Looks like fonkey is skipped

My pick is Adam Johnson

I know he is injured but it wasn't as serious as first reported, he didn't need an op and should be back in the next couple of weeks. Plus he was in excellent form earlier in the season. Will do a proper write up later.

David Villa
Frank Lampard
Jack Wilshere
Gerard Pique
Santi Cazorla
Micah Richards
Thomas Vermaelen
Gilardino
Adam Johnson

Default formation for now will be an old school 4-4-2 but I'll be picking more midfielders later to produce a 4-3-3 variant and may end up going with that

442 with Lampard/Wilshere CM partnership doesn't look very good in my eyes.

I can't think who you mean kev in saying there are better wingers available, AJ is good value there imo. We obviously rate wide playerss differently because Ashley Young is cack I'm afraid

Tricky decision..

I think I'm down to three centrebacks who I really like in my side. Two of them I don't think will be available too much longer.

Right-back is looking pretty thin too and I'm almost certain my favorite choice remaining will get picked before I'm up next time.

Midfield I could actually see my top two choices falling but they're the most important I think so I wouldn't feel too good gambling on that, and on top of that one is a little too weak defensively for my taste, though I'd love him later for the bench, so that leaves just one basically... hmmmm

Anyway, will be picking soon.

Like I said Im a fan but still think there are a few better players out there for this particular draft. I had to pick Young, he'll be in a Utd shirt next season

Okay predictably I will indeed go with the midfielder, even if I could see him falling. The risk of losing the only one I'm really happy with to fill my last midfield starting spot (and having watched Lille their last three games just to make perfectly sure!) leaves me just too uncomfortable.

More (team) writeup stuff later where this player almost completes the picture, but for now:

Pick 173

Round 9:

Spoiler:

Yohan Cabaye

The Lille midfielder (talisman he looks like to me), while somewhat boldly ranked 144 on my 300 list, is a pretty unknown player for most I suspect, and other than by name for me as well, until this season really.

Interestingly he is yet another smallish player (and I did have some early ideas about giving this team a South American feel), but he is picked because he combines great range of passing, not least his deeper balls central which are just pin point a very good amount of the time, with great work rate and exemplary decision making.

There is some deep lying playmaker here and he is the player consistently providing Hazard, Gervinho and undrafted with deliveries they can run on and on my team Müller really needed this player I think.

There is leadership and defensively, while won't call him a strong tackler or anything, he never takes a shift off and is always either pressing or back tracking. That's a huge plus over my other last remaining right-central midfield candidate.

I can't be sure how this player has been before this season where I haven't really noticed him and only seen him described as a good box to box player, but from what I've seen from this season he looks to be a great fit and the best I could find by some distance.

Jeremy Toulalan

real solid DM that I'm surprised fell so far, he's reasonably quick, is a capable ball player with a good range of passing. Doesn't make many errors and can also play CB which enables me to run a Brazil 2002 WC type 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-1-1 with Bastos and Lahm as wingbacks, and Toulalan advancing to become an auxilliary DM, enabling me to have a numerical advantage in midfield and out wide against most systems.

Like most of my guys, he is available for trade if you can package me something worthwhile, including players and/or picks.

Team so far:

Robben
Drogba
Lahm
Pato
Lucho Gonzalez
Bastos
James "30 million pounds" Milner
Flamini
Toulalan

Definitely not as talented but characteristics and role for Lille are comparable with Sahin at Dortmund I think.

round 9, pick 175 Somerset Rovers select:

Andrea Dossena

despite his red scouse connections, I need an attacking LB that will fit with my side. He'll be able to get forward for me and will do decent enough in defense which will also be covered by my CMs and CBs

Somerset Rovers:

Wayne Rooney
Marek Hamsik
Darren Fletcher
Juan Mata
Marouane Felliani
Rafael da Silva
Jan Vertoghen
Michael Carrick
Andrea Dossena

Draft Strat:

The goalie run seems strategically disastrous. I think a lot of people made huge errors in selecting GKs this draft.

I think there are good arguments for not taking the first tier goalies until at least round 9/10. I also think the first tier should be small. I also think the average goalie round selection should be a few rounds before the final round.

Most importantly, I think taking the 5th, 6th, 7th, xth best goalie so shortly after the 2nd is a huge fail.

Thoughts?

Goalies more important to a team than most people think imo. I think the first couple of goalies were drafted late, the next tier a bit early perhaps.
