THE 2008 NFL Draft - Day One THE 2008 NFL Draft - Day One

Tell me what the Jaguars would have used on those 3rd and 4th round picks? The team has stockpiled picks for years and is one of the most well run organizations in the NFL. You don't need 7-8 picks every single year. Jaguars attacked and got a ridiculous amount of value in the deal.

Throw the points board out, there is no possible way that the picks the Jags gave up should have gotten them the #8 pick in the draft.

As far as Groves goes its obvious that he is a project and that he will be used as basically a PRS which is sorta fine for now...but I look at the Jaguars other 2nd round picks under Shack Harris and the two most recent are absolute grand slams(Justin Durant and Maurice Jones-Drew). I have infinite faith in this new regime in drafting.

Saying the Jags didn't make a horrible trade is one thing, saying they got a ridiculous amount of value in the deal is a bit much imo.

And yes we should throw out the trade charts, because a top 10 pick has lost a lot of value over the years.

Ok just to end this charade:

The next question is about how the compensation equated. The Jaguars gave up their first-round pick (#26 overall- value of 700 points), both third-round picks (#71- 235 points, #89- 145 points), and their fourth-round pick (#125- 47 points) for a total value of 1195 points. The eighth overall pick in the draft is worth 1400 points. Normally discrepancies in trade value (on the chart) are roughly 10-20 points difference, but almost never is there a better than 200 point discrepancy. The deal the Jaguars struck was so good that it even surprised their front office—

This wasn't one we envisioned," Jacksonville coach Jack Del Rio said. "We didn't think we had enough ammo to get into the top 10. We weren't going to give up our whole draft. We think (Harvey) is a perfect fit for us. It makes sense for us."
Thats from Scout.com. A 200 point difference??? That is unreal.

Edit: And lets be honest...with the roster the Jaguars have right now how much of a chance do the 3rd round-7th round picks have at making the team?

Did the Jags turn down a Jason Taylor deal? I'm curious as to what they could have gotten him for.

C'mon, the Jags aren't loaded to the point where 3rd and 4th round picks would most likely not make the team.

Even so, Harvey sucks. He may have been drafted 8th, but they gave up all of those picks to get a really overrated guy who wasn't getting picked in the top 10.
