I just got a HP notebook, dv6446. I'm running Vista 32, AMD Turion dual core processor. I've tried to download Poker Stars, but I get an error message that says "Installer has encountered a disk write error. Please ensure all other applications are closed before installing. Also, ensure the destination drive has sufficient space and you have access rights."
I've successfully downloaded FullTilt. Any ideas why I'm having trouble with PS, and what should I do to solve the problem? Thanks

I would try downloading to a different location, or just click "run" not "save" when you start the download from the site.
Clear internet history thru internet options in the control panel to clear any of the previous download attempts.
I have vista ultimate and run PS + PT + PAHud but i do have "user account control" turned off, google it to find out how to turn off.

try turning off your firewall before installing. also try right clicking on the setup file and selecting "Run as Administrator"

make sure you turn your firewall back on when finished

I had the same problem. PStars suggested saving the download and and opening the program. Email Pstars if a problem. I had a reply within hours and problem solved. Also, make sure you are signed in as an administrator.

Not to hijack thread, but I am basically having the same problem with my new laptop. I am not sure if I am running as administrator in the first place. How can I ensure that I am administrator on my computer?

Google - Turn off UAC or Run as Administrator.

I am still amazed by the number of people that don't even attempt a little research on their own. Not tryin to be mean, but its like everyone would like their answers gift wrapped for Xmas.

I would leave it off permanetly, i do. It seems to make other applications run better and eliminates the hassle of right clicking and running as admin each time. If you do want to use UAC you can right click on the icon for the programs that need it go into properties->compatibility and check the last box to "run as administrator", this will do the same as right clicking and choosing it but doesnt seem to work with all apps. IMO screw UAC.
