Tiling problem

Hi guys
I normally tile 8 tables across 2 screens. What I don't need is for a table requiring action to take preference. Example - I am typing some comments in chat on a table but as I am doing so another table requiring action takes preference and my typing is stopped without me knowing (i need to look at my keyboard when typing).
Is there something simple I can do to stop this? It needs to be simple and well explained because I am pretty hopeless with software.
Any help appreciated guys although it's not the end of the world if it can't be done - I have been living with it for years
