Is it necessary to have Quicktime or can I uninstall it?
A friend of mine said its a waste of time and it slows down your pc,if that's the case what does it actually do in the background while your playing poker etc.

Some (few) videos (mostly trailers for movies not on youtube) are in QT format. If you don't have QT (or an alternative) you won't be able to view them. I haven't had QT installed in years and never missed it.

I've just done a quick search on the internet and it appears there's a lot of negative feedback regarding Quicktime,in fact I never realized how much it slowed down my pc down.
