I am just glad I will never have to own a PC with vista. I bought my current PC off the shelf <3 weeks before Vista released, and it should last me until W7 goes live.

haha @ Rob

Vista really isn't bad after the first couple of days. Once you learn what to turn off and have it set up right, it seems to be just as good as XP (not really any better though). There were obv way more issues w/ it early on, but I first installed earlier this year and haven't had any problems other than allsnap not working. I was hesitant, but kerowo told me I should be fine, and he was right.

Can I edit my config file in HEM to change how often the stats refresh in the HEM window? To be clear, not talking about the HUD. If I'm on the Tourney tab and I finish a hu s&g, I have to hit refresh for everything to update. I'm fairly certain it eventually autorefreshes, just seems like it takes a really long time.

What does the Show Known Holecards checkbox do in HEM? Obv I tried it, doesn't appear to change anything.

Where is it supposed to show them/is mine broken?

I heard HEM has a hh window? Is it sexy? How do I try it? Is that where I mark hands?

What other cool features am I not taking advantage of?

No clue, and I dont think that it auto-refreshes on the cash windows.

It shows only marked hands that fit the filter criteria.

The table averages - last pot(s) display. Click the name of the last winner to open the HH window and mark hands (check box). Click on the previous pot amount to only show the previous board/mucked cards w/o showing the HH window.

Once you have marked some hands, and 'filter' for all hands with 'only show marked hands' selected, it will show every marked hand. If you filter for today, and choose 'only show marked hands', it would only show marked hands played today.

You can also mark hands from the hands tab under the right-click shortcut menu, in addition to marking them while playing.

I think the show known holecards will filter out all hands that don't have known holecards. So, if you are looking at your own hands, it wont filter any out, because your holecards are known in every hand. It would only be effective when reviewing hands that you found for a villain (by searching a villains name instead of hero name), when their hole cards are only known if SD was reached.

Should I be posting all in one post (seriously)? I always felt like if each post is about separate things, it's better to separate. Then if someone doesn't care/doesn't know they can safely ignore the entire post. I also try to avoid major editing cause then people read something/respond before you change it.

If everyone thinks I should be putting everything in the same post, I am happy to do it that way. I am trying to be considerate.

I personally def prefer people making separate posts. I think it's just as easy to read and allows me to easily skip certain posts. Makes responding easier too.

What's the standard play?

Edit: Thanks for explaining the Show Known Holecards thing. That makes sense. I assumed it was supposed to be showing my opponents cards somewhere.

Do whatever works for you. It wasn't your fault I was too busy thinking about funny editing reason comments to post, instead of properly reading your questions so I could answer properly. I was just in a rush and being lazy.

I have a nostromo pad that can record macros. I can program up to 20 keys with a string of inputs. So far, I use it to mainly open all of the tables at the stake I want to play in, and then I can let HM find me the best one to sit down at.

I also programed the pad to enter in bet amounts... pretty cool little gadget. Do any of you use things like this?

There are a handful of players that use it in combination with AHK scripts like Stars Hotkeys, BetPot, etc. I have seen it mentioned in the stars hotkeys thread, and other AHK threads. I have also seen it mentioned in the occasional 'which mouse is best' threads.

It is likely preferable to have separate posts, I'm thinking it makes hitting multiquote and typing the answers between questions (or just picking out one question for which I know an answer) much easier for a lazy person like me, who likes the formatting of split quotes with relevant response right there enough to manually type quote /quote in the middle of peoples big long single posts

hey

is there a way to buy data mined hands for specific time ranges? getting millions of hands for all times of the day isn't that useful. i would rather have millions of hands for the times of the day that i play. that's a lot more useful, you know?.

i looked around. there was one web site that provided this service but not for .5/1 fixed limit and not for full tilt. web site looked old, outdated and like its not working.

thanks

What does a vacuum analyze in HEM do? Improves performance, right? How often do I do it? Is there any downside to doing it/any reason to not do it every day?

Did I miss out on some HEM documentation? I thought I read about the program when I got it, but I keep having questions about things that I don't understand.

Also, is there any reason to limit the number of dbs I create? I haven't deleted any yet, and I've been creating new ones and reimporting whenever there's a new release/whenever I want to test something. I tried to delete some using pgdamin or whatever it's called but didn't understand so went back to playing. Documentation for that?

I will let dave or juk answer the vac/analyze questions. I am an SQL-tard.

Old DB's you are no longer using are wasting hard drive space. Hopefully you tuned your SQL and turned off logging so your new DB isn't wasting space writing logs every session. To delete old DBs thru PGAdmin just connect to the DB, then right-click > delete/drop the DB. After doing that you will probably want to vac/analyze (at least I typically do - see my post above WRT to SQL-tard) and then stop the SQL server and defrag the entire HD. Then restart the sql server or reboot.

AFAIK, vacumm reclaims wasted space occupided by stuff you've deleted and analyze makes future queries run more efficiently.

You prolly won't gain much by doing it too often, but if you never do it then performance will start to slowly degrade. Doing it once every couple of weeks is prolly enough (or after importing a huge amount of data such as with bought data-mined hands, etc).

Never even heard of turning off logging? What are the logs for? Completely useless?

What am I right clicking on? I don't see any dbs. I can right click on PostgreSQL Database Server 8.3 but I don't see the individual dbs and I don't want to delete all dbs/my current db. I could just click on menu buttons but I am worried I'll break something since I have no idea what this stuff means.

I am actually fine on hd space, was more concerned w/ performance.

Logs are just that, logs. I assume used for troubleshooting SQL issues, but making a new DB is easier IMO. They often take up a LOT of space in your SQL pg_log directory.

Details here - PostgreSQL Optimization

Click on the + for the SQL server, in pgadmin, to see all the DBs within. Then right click the individual DB, instead of the SQL server, to do maintenance/drops.
