I've been having problems with Postgres for the past month or so, but the strangest thing is that it just all started happening one day w/o provocation. Applications like HEM, PokerGrapher, and PokerEV all suddenly stopped working one day, citing misc Postgres errors. Even stranger is that PTO works fine, and my PTO dbs are all Postgres! I've tried restarting the Postgres service to no avail, and I'm no database wiz so that was all I could think of.

I made a short video with Camtasia showing the error messages given by each application: http://tbaudio.com/poker/PostgresSQL_errors.wmv

I'm running Vista Home Premium with all current updates, and pretty sure my postgres version is 8.2.6. All poker software is up-to-date. Any help is greatly appreciated!

It is also possible to install sql 8.3 right along side your 8.2 server. I used to use pto on sql 8.2 and hem on sql 8.3.

All my problems with Postgres stopping - which i could never restart - were caused by Window update.

Oh, right. I forgot about that (I am on XP).

1: Go to "C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc" and open the "hosts" file with notepad

It might look something like this:
**************************************************
# Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

::1 localhost
************************************************** ****

2: Enter "127.0.0.1 localhost" (without the quotes) at the bottom of the file
4: Save the file
5: Restart PostgreSQL service by clicking on Start Menu - Programs - Postgresql - Start Service

Thanks,

Roy
