Just got a new computer (Dell wouldn't allow Windows XP) and cannot run any hand tracker software because i cannot get PostgreSQL to work. When I try to install it through PT3, I get the following error:

And so I tried downloading HoldemManager, which instructs me to install PostgreSQL on my own. This is the error I get when running the PostgreSQL install:

try using a different account name. don't use 'postgres'. when you tried installing the first time it probably created the account name and didnt get through the rest of the install. im not a whiz at computers, so i didnt know how to delete the account name 'postgres'. when i made up one on my own it went through.

Well - did you do what it said and open up initdb.log and read the error message?

When I first installed PT3, my problem was that I had previously installed and unistalled postgresql once before and the old (empty) data directory was there. The solution for me was simply to delete the existing \postgresql\8.3\data\ directory before I reran the installation.

If your error message is something more complicated, I suggest reading the forums over at the PT3 website; they have a longish thread about vista install problems.

Vista install of PostgreSQL, Simple - Enable "Administrator" account. This is done as follows -
Firstly click on Vista's Start orb, then in the Start Search dialog box type: secpol.msc. Note: you must include the .msc extension.

Secondly drill down to Local Policy, Security Options

Thirdly double click Accounts: Administrator account status, and select enable.

Then Also disable UAC in vista this is done as follows -
1. Open Control Panel.
2. Under User Account and Family settings click on the "Add or remove user account".
3. Click on one of the user accounts, for example you can use the Guest account.
4. Under the user account click on the "Go to the main User Account page" link.
5. Under "Make changes to your user account" click on the "Change security settings" link.
6. In the "Turn on User Account Control (UAC) to make your computer more secure" click to unselect the "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer". Click on the Ok button.
7. You will be prompted to reboot your computer. Do so when ready.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you have done all of the above then install postgreql using the administrator account. (Remembering to uninstall all traces of any previous attempts first).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
In order to re-enable UAC just select the above checkbox and reboot.

Ok the above is a little long winded. But it works fine and takes no longer than 10 mins. After its all done you can choose to leave vista "as is" or you can reverse the above steps (UAC back on and Hide the Admin account) by following the reverse of what you have just done. Hope this helps. (The above is good for installing many programs in vista)

Still have this problem, despite I did reinstall vista and first software installation I made was PostgeSQL I think there is something wrong with regional settings, because all information that I could find about this problem was related with non-US windows. But I did change all available settings and still no help
