i am switching over to hem and when i start to dl the database and run the msi file it gives me an error that says this package could not be opened (windows installer) any ideas?

Are you installing directly from the ZIP file or did you extract it first?

same problem..
i get the error regardless if i extract or not!!!

it goes something like.."This installation package could not be opened.."

Try running one of the other files in the archive. I remember when i did this last week i had to run something else other than the .msi.

nope - Regardless which of the extracted files i attempt to install i still get meg. " This installation package could not be opened... check file exists .... check windows installer is valid..."

Willing to bet you are still not extracting it properly. Either that or your download wasn't complete or possibly corrupted somehow.

Right Click > Extract the SQL ZIP file to a new folder.

Go into the new folder of extracted files and run:

postgresql-8.x.msi (100 - 200 KB)

I have Vista Home Premium and trying to install Postgresql is a complete wreck. Also, keep in mind I am not a computer guy so I am basically stuck. Here is the problem that I am running into.

After unzipping the file I get a postgresql-8.2-int file. When I click on properties it says the file type is msi so I am assuming this is the correct file. When I click run I get a prompt saying "Please use the main MSI file to install PostgresSQL" and then the install shuts down. I have tried every other file but no luck. I have turned off the UAC, but can not access the local group file to log on as the administrator...what do I need to do?

I get to the initialise database cluster page in the install process before it cranks an error message talking about NTFS formatted volumes vice other types.

How do i even check whetehr my drives are NTFS FAT or whatever?

by accident. . .i think i got it.

when that folder pops up, i went to the postgresql-8.2.6-2 filed on the left hand side of the folder under the title "folders".

I right clicked and "extract all". THEN i clicked on the postgresql-8.2.msi and it worked.
