Hey, I am trying to install poker tracker, can someone help me out here?

I don't know what PostGreSQL is. Do I want it? What is it?
It asks me for this complicated password thing, I don't even know, its all gibberish to me.

please, someone?

PokerTracker 2 or PokerTracker3?

PT2 - You don't need it, but you will eventually want it - or else your Access database will get slow, and eventually fill up. Check the old PokerTracker Forum Archives for their SQL installation help.

PT3 - Wont run without it.

Thank you, its poker tracker 3. Now do I have to pay attention at all to the password and all those steps, or should I use the defualt?

I cant really say, as I already had SQL installed when I tested PT3. IIRC - it pretty much did it all for you. I would certainly note any "passwords" you think may be important later. I believe that PT3 defaults the SQL password to "dbpass"

If you did not have SQL installed to begin with, just download PT3 with Postgres and PT3 will install it for you. If you already had Postgres and do not know your passwords, you hopefully delete the program and reinstall as stated above. Once PT3 installs Postgres it will show you a screen of all of your passwords. I did a printscreen of that so I will have them later. I am in the process of doing it now, and all of my hands were imported but is taking a long time to "cluster" the hands. It says cluster complete at the bottom, but no stats have shown up yet. But the link for downloading PT3 will install the SQL for you. That is probably the easiest thing to do instead of going the the Postgres website and trying to figure out how to do the new version. I can't tell you why you need it, or why it is necessary. The only thing I know is that it is some sort of open source program for databases. It runs faster than other database programs and is more intricate. I have installed it before and again with the PT3 link. It worked well on my machine when I had HoldemManger on there and there weren't any noticeable drawbacks. I finished redownloading it tonight via the PT3 with Postgres link. I used the default passwords and they worked fine.

If you decide to go with Holdemmanger I don't know if you'd have to change the passwords but Roy who created HM is very helpful and said that he can help with a go around after you install Postgres.

PostgresSQL is identical no matter PT3, HoldemManager or whatever. one database server, same password for all trackers (clients).

Ok I tried to install this thing, and it is giving me an error message. Why does nothing ever work for me? Can someone who is very well rounded with this databse please PM me and help me out? That would be much appreciated.

If you are having trouble installing Poker Tracker 3, I suggest you post your question/problem in the PT3 thread in this forum, or on the PT3 site forums.

Make sure you are as detailed as possible. It will be hard for them to help you if you only say, "it is giving me an error message. Why does nothing ever work for me?" Tehy will want to know the specific error, and many more things as well.
