Hi,

right now I'm thinking about getting a new PC - or MAC?

Does anyone have any experience playing on a MAC and does all the pokersoftware (stove, HEM, wizard) run in one?

Thanks guys.

Cheers

Coming from a mac user- if you are using it for mainly poker, get a PC.

Firstly, I think the only rooms that support mac are PS and FTP.

There is a MAC version of HEM, but hell if I can get it to work properly. The only other option for HUD i believe is poker copilot which IMO is far inferior.
I believe there is a mac version of stove, but no SNG wizard as far as Im aware.

But on the other hand, for non poker use I far prefer macs.

First off let me say that I have a Mac, I think the main question has already been asked.... Are you using it mainly for poker? If you are then obviously right now there are some limitations, I personally only play on FT/Stars and UB all of those sites obviously are compatible with Mac's..

I personally use PokerTracker3 and it works perfectly fine, very easy to install and as I am still learning the program it runs great and I have not had any problems... Unless you have to play on other sites that are not Mac compatible then obviously get a PC.

I would think of myself as an avid poker player online and I wouldnt switch back. The overall performance isnt even comparable and I think by the end of the year you will see whatever is not compatible with Mac making the switch. Macs are being more and more popular with just your everyday user.

My suggestion GET A MAC!!!!

My suggestion, fwiw, is to get an Intel-based Mac. The hardware IN RELATION to the OS is superior across the board when running Leopard or Snow Leopard, and with an Intel based Mac, there are multiple ways to run Windows, even, or especially Windows XP, including but not limited to dual-booting, Parallels, Virtual Machine, etc.

An Intel-based Mac is the best of both worlds in my experience.

[For what it is worth, I'm not a Mac fanboy, though I do own one. I'm a Windows .NET developer, so in a professional setting, there is no question Windows is superior so long as you aren't into professional design or media.]

I don't even think macs have any edge over PCs for design and media anymore. I'm a classic ASP developer so have to use PCs at work. I do all my design work on the same machines and have no issues. All the software that was exclusive to macs all those years ago are now available and work just as good on windows machines.

I do however prefer macs overall though because OSX is so much "prettier" than windows and I find the user experience much more pleasant. I use one for my main computer at home.

That is probably a valid point, I guess I should say it this way; Macs tend to be the preference when doing visual/media work, but that doesn't make them necessarily better.

I just look at examples like Tim Burton's Corpse Bride which was done exclusively on five Intel-based Macs, and Avatar, which has had multiple stories written about the use of Macs and I guess it is easy to fall into the Mac fanboy camp.

Guys, thanks so much for your replies! I'm very strongly tending towards buying a MAC, just because everybody i speak to tells me that the overall performance is much better and it just doesn't slow down (for years, at least). And let's face it, the design is much prettier .

I went to an AppleStore and the guys there told me that it was no problem running windows on a MAC. Does anyone have experience playing poker on a windows OS on a MAC?

I would mainly the computer playing poker. I use HEM, SNG wiz and Pokerstove, and I don't want to miss them.

Thanks so much for your advice!

Cheers.

Just to let you know, Macs are more expensive for the same performance. You will pay a good percentage more just to have an apple. If you spend the same amount for a PC and an apple, the PC will be faster. You can also upgrade a PC which isn't really an option with macs. Computers don't really slow down as long as you don't download anything stupid or go to suspicious sites. Also, I do believe that the performance of virtually running windows on a mac isn't 100%.

As a strong supporter of Windows and PCs and as a Windows developer, even I will say this is not true. Dollar for dollar, you will get better STATISTICS from a PC, but for anecdotal performance, a Mac is the better choice.

Also consider you will get much more mileage out of a Mac over a 3-4 year timespan than from a PC.

Take some advice from someone who plays poker on a Mac. Install Windows to an Intel-based Mac in a dualboot option. Don't try to virtualize Windows. Do a native install of Windows and dedicate that Windows install to poker, and leave the Mac install for our general computing.

Mac + Pokercopilot + Blazingstars = Perfection

Multi Mac/PC + Dropbox (for HH sync)= Amazing

Pokerstove + Winebottler = WORKS ON MAC!

I run a mac and just use boot camp to run a 2nd partition, just for Pokerz.

I think it's easier just run SNGWiz, HEM, etc native.
