Need some basic help with Access/OpenOffice Database

I do a fair bit of coaching, in addition to my playing. Having put an ad on 2p2 this month, the number of students I have has increased by 3x. I was originally using an Excel spreadsheet to keep track my students, session dates, date of payment, pay rate, payment method, notes on the session, etc. Now the spreadsheet is getting a bit unwieldy. I'd also like some easy filtering/search functions and a bit more automation when adding new students to the database.
I'd be willing to compensate someone who has a bit of experience in this type of thing for their time. I could do this with free coaching or by a paypal xfer.
I think that what I'm trying to do should be relatively basic stuff, but I'm just a huge noob with access.
