i did a brief tutorial....

software can be found here

1.) once installed, DL the pokerstove.exe file and open with Wine
2.) select convert to simple OS X Application bundle with WineBottler
3.) it will create an app called 'My Wine App' (or whatever you want )in the folder of your choosing
4.) open the app - presto!

alternatively you can use this new equity calculator
http://www.holygrailofpoker.com/index/tools/

the interface is close to pokerstove, but as it is a web application it works on any platform.

Moreover it lets you post your results in forums as nice charts like the one below:

The instant I started Slice, my Macbook Pro's fan was making a higher-pitched whine than I had ever heard. I don't think it's well optimized yet.

You are certainly the first person (out of many other Mac users) to report such a thing. There is no reason that Slice should cause your computer to overheat!

I'm not sure what you mean by "well optimized". Slice does use a big hunk of memory (~150MB I think) but your processor will be idle if you are not running any calculations.

Thanks for the good feedback on PokerCruncher's iPhone version. A native Mac version of PokerCruncher is now live on the Mac App Store.

This program has 10 player fully general hand ranges, but goes beyond this PokerStove level with features like flop odds/texture analysis, many stats, and range equity breakdown heat maps.

See the PokerCruncher Mac version's thread for more info, and see http://www.pokercruncher.com. A free demo version is available on our website.

On iPhone/iTouch there are two separate apps PokerCruncher and ICM Cruncher. I don't have plans to write a Mac version of ICM Cruncher yet (want to look at doing other OS versions of PokerCruncher first). Thanks for your interest in the apps.

Anyone used the Winebottler program to get Pokerstove working on a macbook recently? Seems to have worked fine in the past, when I launch the poker stove from winebottle it just hangs.

Cheers
