Hi,

I'm a Hold'em Manager user and I do like the program very much. Now I want to use it on two different computers, since I stay a lot at my gf's house aswell is my own.

Can, and if, how do I synchronize my databases on those two computers?

Thnx in advance!

The easiest way would be to set up the PostgreSQL data folder on removable media and take the database with you. It would be possible to network the computers but the security risks of that for both machines are pretty severe. If you don't know a lot about computer network security setup I would recommend the removable media. If you are good at computer network security, you will already want to go the mobile media route.

Get a decent external HD and enclosure and move postgresql there. I guess it could be done on a really large thumb drive, but I think a real HD in an external enclosure would be a lot better.

Haha, thnx for the help..

I figured out it's possible to export files. I take those exported files with me and import 'em again. It works thnx anyway!

Pictures of my GF.. hmm Ahh well.. OK

We were performing artists here, smoking fish (as I do very well, I won some national championships for that.. yes.. we do have those here..).

In step 3 of the wiki guide, do I just move the data folder or the whole PostgreSQL folder? Can I still run HEM from my C drive or does it have to be run from the external drive? Thanks!

It depends. Sorry, but that is really the answer.

If you install PostgreSQL on each machine's HD, then follow instructions to move where the data is stored, you only need to move the data. If you are installing PostgreSQL on each machine but installing it to the removable media (program and data) then you will need to move everything. FWIW I recommend the former, since it allows you to run PostgreSQL w/o the removable media loaded.

I'm a computer donk . I had PGSQL v. 8.2 installed on both my desktop and laptop. A few months ago I installed HEM on my laptop and transferred my db from PT2 to HEM. I just bought an external HD, and now I want to move my HEM db onto that so I can use HEM on both comps. If I move just the PGSQL data folder to my external HD, can I still run the same HEM db from my desktop using the same v of PGSQL? Thanks again!

yes but you will have to have the external drive plugged in and ready to use HEM then.

Ugh, so now I can't get my HEM to work on my laptop (vista) or my desktop (xp). Yesterday, I went backwards through the process on my laptop and got my old HEM db working. Then I followed the step-by-step guide and put my pgdata folder on my external hd. I could not get HEM to run from that db on vista. As soon as I would try to start running the pgsql service, it would immediately stop. Then when I would try to connect with the database control panal via HEM, I would get a popup stating something along the lines of "Do you want HEM to start the service". yes. Then "HEM has started the service." followed by an immediate close down of HEM.

On XP, I ran HEM from my external HD and it worked. The only problem was that the only DB's that showed up were my old PT one's. So I tried recopying the data folder from my laptop onto my external HD. Now I get a message stating " Connection Error: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host."

God I suck at computers. Can any of you more computer savvy posters help me?

On my laptop, when I backtracked and tried to run my db from the c drive, I get the following error message

"The following error occurred when trying to open the database. Failed to establish a connection to '127.0.0.1'"

I hit OK, then

"Holdem Manager has determined that you are running Microsoft Vista. In order to have Holdem Manager run well you should do the following:

1) Disable User Access Control.......

2) Right click holdemmanager.exe...and make sure it is run as administrator

3) Repeat step #2 for hmhud.exe and dbcontrolpanel.exe"

So I already had all that done. I hit OK, then the Database Control Panel pops up. I hit connect and get the following

"A connection to PostgreSQL could not be made. Would you like to have Holdem Manager attempt to start the service?"

Yes

"Holdem Manager has started the service. Please try again."

OK

Then nothing.

Any ideas as to what is going on??
