Dealt to Hero A T T A

fold, fold, fold, fold, MP2 raises to $180, fold, Hero calls $180, fold, fold

FLOP ($450) T 9 7

MP2 bets $300, Hero raises to $1,350, MP2 raises to $4,500, Hero raises to $7,650, MP2 calls $1,497 (AI)

TURN ($12,444) T 9 7 6

RIVER ($12,444) T 9 7 6 K

Hero shows A T T A
(Pre 52%, Flop 36.0%, Turn 25.0%)

MP2 shows 8 Q J A
(Pre 48%, Flop 64.0%, Turn 75.0%)

MP2 wins $12,444

Small sample V is aggro, not too loose, c-bet I think 5 out of 6 or 4 out of 5 times, and had c-bet fold in an earlier hand vs me.

I just called on the button because I wanted to avoid a shallow SPR and wanted a chance of winning without showdown.

Thoughts please on all actions and alternative lines.

Eh, correction, this player did not bet-fold an earlier hand, but bet-called with nut low small pair on 8-4-2 flop, and caught up to tie both halves (I had A234).

Pre flop you played it fine. Big time mistake on the flop. You are way too deep to raise here. Call and then consider folding that turn. PLO8 offers so many better spots. You don't have to overplay your set like that on that board, that early, even if it wasn't a str8 on board. Flush draw and a wrap draws are just as deadly.

Well, against even this extreme hand with the nuts and the straight flush redraw and live backdoor low, I had nearly enough equity to correctly call after raising, so I guess equity vs other parts of the range plus protecting from backdoor low makes this a 'gh' besides the fact that for many players I can discount a high number of J8 combos and 86 combos.

By stacking off here you negate any edge you had in the tournament. The worst thing that can happen is for you to have to fold this hand on a flop that has tons of potential value , and I do think you need to fold after raising regardless of equity. Just play a turn in position with a semi disguised hand. You also have the ace of spades , so you know he's not getting crazy with the nut flush draw.

Yeah, I see that point. I thought protecting my hand was important, and I thought I would be able to recover if I lost the pot, or have a dominant position if I won the pot.

Without the ace of spades in my hand, I think it would push the decision clearly in favor of a value/protection/leverage raise.

At this stage of the tourney it doesn't matter if you have 145 BB or you win that hand and you have 245 BB. What you want to avoid at all cost is dropping down to 40 BB.

And I just want to remind you of the math. SET vs MADE STR8 is around 28% to win.
