I'm skeptical. Though I'm familiar with ICM, I don't think you need to be hyper-aware of it to succeed; I think there are probably highly succesful SNG players who have never heard of it; and I think it may actually cause you to play in an excessively weak-tight fashion under some circumstances.

True, says Captain Weak-Tight. Maybe change it to:

Has a general idea of how the ICM value works and how it colors the effective pushing ranges in any given situation. Still never folds AA23.

I have been a successful SNG player over the years and have done very well at PL08 SNG's and would consider the following important;

1)Patience.
2)Value your chips at all stages.
3)Understand when it becomes necessary and profitable to be blind stealing or more so in PLO8 when it changes from a limp game to a raise game preflop.
4)Fearless play when you get 4-5 handed. Nothing reckless but you must put the heat on your opponents here as this is when the real "stress" of a SNG takes place. First goal is always to cash and then go from there but this is the time where you can pick up a lot of chips and turn a lot of would be 3rd's into 1st's and 2nd's
5)A general TAG approach with playing to and betting the nuts.

I am not sure what the ICM approach is that you mention in your original post.

Run at triple your ROI at the $330s, and you should be fine.
