No strong reads, but villain is competent and runs at something like 30/17.

I'd probably fold to be honest. He's probably not doing this without the nut flush draw/a set and some sort of low.

Without reads I gotta call or else your setting yourself up to get owned as he can pretty much do this at will if your not willing to call with less than the nuts.I'm guessing he prolly flopped 2 pair or some medium strength one way hand with like a29x or a39x that he is protecting. How is your image in villians eyes?If villian views you as a nit that changes everything.Folding can't be that bad either but this is a great spot to pick up info for the future if u haven't got any on this guy yet.

You are probably either a small dog or a huge dog in this hand. If villain is making this sort of move all the time that is one thing, but when someone raises UTG and then check-shoves the flop, they usually have something. I don't think you have the sort of hand that you want to play a big pot with.

This is an easy muck for me. Yeah maybe he is only playing a hi hand, but not worth shoving in a stack to find out.

I tend to read this situation as a huge draw against which you're probably not in as good a shape as it may seem. You main concern is running into NFD + NLD. And there are some hands that crush you here big time, like A224 or A334 w/ nut heart draw, where you're like 15/85. You're like 30/70 against flush draw + low wrap and like 35/65 against AA4x. You are beating a low wrap, but not by enough to offset the times you are crushed.

I don't know what a competent player is showing here that you crush enough to make up for the part of his range that crushes you. Pretty easy fold here IMO absent of metagame considerations.

Agreed with most of this. I think villain has A4hh** and top set with weak low chance most of the time, I fold

Tough decision.

A line from a Clint Eastwood movie flickered into my consciousness, something like, "You've got to ask yourself one question. Do you feel lucky? Well, do ya...?" Clint says this line while he has a 44 magnum pointed at the perp's head.

You could be a little bit ahead or way the heck behind.

My guess is Villain possibly has the one way nuts. Hard to say what that is exactly. Could only be 99**, a hand that might well be behind Hero's hand.

If you hadn't written "villain is competent," it would be a tougher decision. But since you wrote that, although there are meta game considerations, and although he could be putting a move on you, for this one time only, I'd be inclined to get out of Villain's way.

Fold.

I feel you're almost certainly drawing to half the pot here.
