I really didn't know how to title this thread.

I currently play NL Texas Holdem Double or Nothing tourneys.

I'm thinking of switching to a new game as there is too much good competition at the higher level SNG I'm at.

So I've been looking at different games. I'm hoping to work up to $50/hour with as little variance as is reasonable (I know there will be a lot).

That said I'm looking into Omaha 8 because it seems like a lower variance game compared to Texas holdem. I also hope the play will be softer at the higher levels ($100, $200, $400) since it is not as popular a game.

All of that said, I'm looking for opinions on if this game will work for my goals. If not, which game might work better for me, if so, should I look into Omaha 8, Omaha HI, SNGs, straight cash, ect......

I'm going to commit to studying another form of poker from Double or Nothings I'm playing now, and I just want to make sure I pursue something that will allow me to make my goal of $50/hr (average).

Thanks for you input,
bonaparte

A game that is "less popular" does not mean "softer."

The opposite is true.

Less popular games are made up of regulars. Survivors.

If there's any money left in poker at the levels you're talking about, it's in NLHE, and it will be for the foreseeable future.

$50/hr is one hell of a goal for online poker nowadays. You'd better be including rakeback in that figure.

Yes rakeback included. Yes I know $50 is a big figure. I'm at about $20/hr now in my Double or Nothings, but I still want to do better.

Well, best of luck to you.

I don't think it can be done, but "trip report" would be interesting.

Plo is also pretty big and there is money to be made in that so I don't think it is only hold em were the money is at.

If this guy is looking for "low variance", PLO aint the tree to be barking up.

If you have low blood pressure, sometimes O8 can fix it.

only if you play it very well are the games softer, other wise you are on a par with the competition if you play just good.

aside from O8 - stud 8, triple draw, KC lowball or badugi. right now everyone is really weak at badugi because its so new, weaker than even stud 8.
