Loving the forum, have been lurking for a while but thought it a good time to really try to improve my game.

Anyway here is a (maybe) interesting hand:

When I raised the flop it seemed like a good spot to win the short stack's chips - they were both very weak passive, but I didnt bank on PGMessias (who I know is a good solid TAG) being so aggro. I know I only really have a FD and AA but the other two were previously showing all sorts of rubbish.

I think raising pre was bad, and trying to push the TAG out was bad, and having no Lo chance was bad - but one of my leaks is being too 'grabby' at pots so hopefully some criticism will help.

You choose to play a big pot out of position with a one way hand.

When the solid player behind you calls, pre flop I'd slow down.

After the flop, you drawing to half the pot against a made low. I don't think AA is good there. Your diamonds might be, and if you made the flush half the pot might be ok, but I don't think pushing there is good at all. I'd call the flop bet. If the weak passive makes a bet, he likely has some low at least.

As played fold. Don't draw to half the pot. Villain has a low + some sort of high like two pair or a wheel draw. Maybe diamonds but I doubt he'd play this hard with a non not flush draw, and if he does have diamonds you lose outs for your draw.

That's what I think.

Also, you can use a hand converter to make this easier to read and villains anonymous.

Doesn't the converter listed in the FAQ work? My guess is HERO is CheddarG. Did you want your name and the other names exposed? HERO's hand is easier to read as

Looks like it costs you $21.40 to call and the pot size is already $8.00+$1.10+$8.50+$29.90=$47.50.

Thus you'd be getting 47.50 to 21.40, about 2.2 to 1, to call if you would be scooping. But you're only going to at best win half of the main pot and probably also half of the side pot.

Looks like
• main pot is $3.10*4=$12.40 and
• side pot will be $57.60 if you call.

So that if you win half, you'll win $6.20 from the main pot and you'll win back your original $7.40 from the side pot (and also get back the price of the call).
If you get scooped, you lose the amount with which pGmeSSiaS started the hand.

Basically, if you make your diamond flush, or if your aces hold up, you'll probably win a total of $13.60. So if you continue, you're gambling $21.40 to possibly win $13.60. And you'll only make your diamond flush 360/990, or roughly 36%.

We have to wonder if Villain has 34YZ (for the six-high straight) or A3YZ (for the nut low) - or something else. But I'd guess Villain has either the six-high straight or the nut low, and is more likely, since you have two aces and no fours, by about two to one, that Villain has the six-high straight, which makes your pair of aces worth dung.

The long and the short of it is I think you have to fold. You're getting unfavorable odds and by a factor of (2140/1360)*(.6364/.3636)= about 3 to 1 (unfavorable) for the diamond flush.

I see. As to your starting hand, the aces and the nut diamond draw are nice, but you have no low.

Unless you feel you have a good chance at stealing the pot on the first or second round, I agree.

Meh. On the basis of this one hand alone, there's not much to criticize. You check/raised hoping to induce the checker behind you to fold and instead he check/re-raised. My guess is TAG saw BTN betting all-in too and had a check/raise planned. Then when you check/raised in front of him, he went ahead and blew you away. (You have to fold here).

If you're consistently too aggressive from on the button you set yourself up for check/raises, (as happened here), but with the small stack BTN itching to go all-in (as anticipated by you both), you got burned. Tough luck when it happens.

Next time please see if you can get the converter to work. Makes it easier for us to respond.

I was never going to call really, but wanted to see how bad it was to try to be oppurtunistic in a spot like that if you catch my drift - but as you say Buzz - Meh. Theres always better spots.

Made a hash of the hand converter, should be OK next time.

I don't hate the reraise preflop but you need be very wary of the flop. You want no more than 1 low card and you'd actually like to see the board pair. The flop that comes out is in my mind, one of the worst that you can see because not only are you already dead to half the pot and almost always behind a 2 pair/straight, but you might be tempted to continue to play because of the NFD.

I think I'm one of the most aggressive posters on here and even I would be looking for a way to fold if the shortstack's $1.10 was any bigger than that. On this flop, you want absolutely nothing to do with this hand if there's any significant action and you absolutely can not raise.

After another look it is really a pretty bad flop - too many low cards but the 's tempt me so much, I think I would have not even given it a second thought if there was no flush draw as have learnt the value of not over playing AAxx!

Preflop is fine, play on the flop is simply horrendous...just fold that.

I don't see the point of the 3-bet preflop. You might get the limper out, but neither the raiser nor the cold-caller is going to fold, and you're really depending on the right flop (ie, a bad flop for lows). Also, I can almost assure you that the other two aces are dead.

I wouldn't fold preflop, but I'd want to see a flop before deciding whether or not to escalate things.

I am fairly clueless at PLO8 though.
