the main difference ive noticed is that you get the ABC low (meaning A23 on 876) way more often than in 4 card so you can feel confident you arent gonna get counterfeited

So there are four boards at showdown? I assume you can use any2 from your 5 for each board?

It sure feels like nobody would fold after the flop, and that each hand would take like 20 minutes. Sounds fun though .

No. There are two boards at showdown.

There are a total of nine cards in the common boards,
3 flop 1 turn
-------------- 1 river
3 flop 1 turn

The river plays with both boards.

Yes.

No. There are some folds. However, there is more action.

That's the downside. Each hand does take longer, not 20 minutes, not that long, but longer. The more cards there are to consider, the slower is the game. And considering both high and low also takes longer. Pretty hard to beat Texas hold 'em for a fast poker game.

For my money it's hard to beat regular Omaha-8. But Juarez does add some variety.

Big O is played Daily at "The Players Casino" http://www.pcventura.com/a very expanded card club ( they took over a old car dealership in Ventura, California.) 3-6 with a full kill, and a pot limit game 3 or 4 days a week. The guy that said he "fried some fish"at the club really hasn't played there very much.

I thought this initially as well but the more I play it the more I feel like there is still a significant skill edge for the better player. The fact that the 5th card can provide so much more to your hand (i.e. back up low protection, add'l straight outs, etc.) it just seems the bad players play as bad or worse with 5 cards as with 4.

Small sample and all but I have been playing 5/5 with a group of guys once a week for 3 years (granted they suck for the most part) plus 125-150 hours at Rio each summer and this is this the conclusion I am coming to.

bwslim69 is right. I haven't played hundreds of hours yet or anything, but I'm definitely learning some important lessons about not over-valuing hands like A2xxx, especially from early position, and folding these hands against certain types of players, especially without back-up low cards.

I've solved this game - the margin was too big to contain the solution though

There are strategic aspects to this game that trap the plo8 player.

I played a couple of sessions at the Rio and thought they were good games. I was down $40 for both sessions.

Here's a quiz: I'm in the CO with A2388; Three see a flop of 865; I am whipsawed all in. How much of the pot did I win?

Hint 1: One opponent had KKQ43, other didn't show.

Hint 2: Turn was an A, river was a 2.

/bbv, but a fairly common story.

If you want Big O threads, it might be best to post specific hands and ask for comments.
Big Mitt is still going strong in West Texas near the Midland/Odessa area. You get rich oil guys with lots of cash, who love to gamble and you get a lot of action.

It seems to be making a comeback, with it being in the mix rotation of different local games 3 or 4 times a week.

I'm pleased to hear Big O is thriving in Pensacola. We've mostly switched over to five-card in our weekly home game... it does get more action than four-card.

Pensacola is a bit far from Los Angeles, but thanks for the invite.

And welcome to the forum.

Pensacola resident here also. Can confirm the Big O game is super juicy. Have only played in this game a few times but can already see the potential. Although not being experienced in this game, I am quite experienced in live poker in general and can tell that 5+ players at the table are beyond horrible and just waiting to pot in their chips with the 4th nuts or whatever. I really want to learn this game.

Used to play a 2/5 NLH/PLO8 game all the time that centered around a rich fish and his wife at Ebro Greyhound Track a couple years ago and it was great.
